Chapter 1
It was 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday when Pamela walked into Silver Spoon Cafe. She was wearing a long-sleeve purple hoodie and high-waisted jeans with a pair of brown boots. Her hair is up in a bun. She is carrying a bag with her everyday stuff. Pamela also takes her laptop bag to work. She headed to the counter to order a medium cup of caramel coffee. When Pamela grabs her cup of coffee. She moved to the table on the right back wall. Then set up her laptop and put in her headphones to work. Pamela is working on her seventh book. She is a fiction writer.
It was about 4:30 p.m. by the time things got noisy in the café. Students and teachers were coming into the café for an afternoon break before heading for their after-school activities. People that worked nine-to-five jobs were going for some afternoon coffee and snack. Cain walked in like a pure businessman. He is wearing a well-tailored three-piece charcoal suit with his neck-length coal-black hair slick back with a few strands out and with the side of his head shaved. His eyes, a deep-set blue with a dark expression. Cain is the current C.E.O of the family company that deals in finances for the pack.
He is with his beta, Nate, Gamma Felix, and his brother, Makos. Nate’s suit is a sky-blue shirt with light gray suit pants and a jacket. His long, light silver hair was in a low ponytail. His eyes were forest green with a glimmer of mischief. Felix’s suit is plain and rusty black with a turtleneck. His hair is in a braided ponytail and shaved the side of his head. His eyes are a clear hazel with a hint of gray. They held serious expression. Makos’s suit is a white button with three open buttons, and black suit pants and jacket. His eye penetrated blue with a hint of playfulness.
Cain’s brother Makos is the current project manager of the same company. They are going in for afternoon coffee before heading back to work. They were talking about the project that was about to end next week. It is in its last weeks of completion. Before Cain got to the counter, he caught a scent that smelled wonderful and delicious. He closed his eyes and took in a big inhale.
“What? What is it? What do you smell?” Makos asked with a questioning look. “I smell my mate,” Cain responded as he opened his eyes.
He looked around for the scent. Wondering where it was coming from. His eyes landed on Pamela sitting at the back table. She is on her laptop, hyper-focused on her work, with headphones in. To him, she looked beautiful with her olive tone skin slightly tanned, as if she barely gets any sun. Her hair light amber up in a bun with a few strands out. Even though they’re covered by glasses, he can still see her ice-blue eyes with a hint of silver focusing hard on her work.
“Is that her?” Makos asked when he saw his brother looking at Pamela. “Yes,” Cain simply said. “What do you want to do?” he inquires to his brother. “I don’t know. She looks hard at work, and you know how I feel about being disturbed at work,” Cain said. His brother, Nate, and Felix understand what he meant; he hates it when co-workers disturbed him when he is busy with a project. “Plus, she is human. How am I going to talk to her and have her not like at me weird?” Cain asked them. Nate simply shrugs his shoulders with no clue what to say. Felix didn’t know what to say.
“Well, you must plan, of course,” Makos hinted at sarcastically. “Well, no shit,” Cain agreed sarcastically.
While they discussed what Cain can do to talk to Pamela, people in the café noticed them standing in the middle. They realize their Alpha was talking about Pamela in the back. They all wondered if she was their Luna.
Pamela was in the back, just simply working on her new book, totally oblivious to what was going around here. But after some time, she noticed when she felt eyes on her. She looked up and noticed four gentlemen were standing a few feet away from the counter talking and looking in her general direction. She looked up about two more times before she left and went home. So, she packed up her stuff, finished her coffee in one go. Throw the cup in the trash. And walk out of the café and head home.
Cain didn’t like to see her leave. But he can’t do everything because he didn’t know how to talk to her without scaring her. So, he and the others walked a few steps to the counter and ordered coffee, and picked a random table to sit and talk about what he can do about his mate.
“What am I to do?” Cain asked no one in particular, which is a bit of agony. “Well, you could just shift a part of you,” his beta said. “Yes, I could, but think about this realistically. She is human. Even if I shifted a part of my arm and showed it to her. What are the changes that she still won’t freak out about and would not want to talk to me about? And we are in a café. She is working. You know how I feel about disturbing while working.” Cain conveys dramatically.
“Well, two events are coming up. A pack member’s birthday and a festival. We can invite her to one of these things.” Felix mentioned.
“We need to figure out who she is first,” Makos informed them. “I shall get on that now,” Nate said as he pulled out his laptop from his bag that always carries with him.
“Would it make it easier if I got the coffee cup she threw out?” asked Felix. “And why would that help?” Nate question. “They write our names on that cup,” Felix replied. “Having a name would be a good start,” Makos stated. “Well, now that you have mentioned it, we know little about her, so a name would be a good start,” said Nate. “Okay, then I will get the cup,” Felix said as he got and walked to the garbage.
He put his hand in the bin and looked for the cup. Once he got it, he looked at the cup and read, “Pamela, her name is Pamela.” He walked back to the table and handed the cup to Cain. “Pamela, that is a nice name.” Nate was typing away on his laptop, looking for a file matching the name Pamela. “Miss Pamela, Human; Female; 27-year-old; single.” Nate read off his laptop. “She moved here five years alone.” He continued. “Alone, she is living here alone,” Makos questioned. “That is what it says here.” “A lonely human living on pack lands, that seems a little suspicious,” Felix commented. “Hey, you only move to a different place for two things, a change of scenery or a new job,” Nate responded. “Unless you’re running from something or someone,” Mako commented.
“Why is that the first thing you think of?” Cain asked angrily. Makos shrugged. “Just being cautious here.” “Cautious of what?” Cain asked.
“Why would she move to a different place, especially to a pack?” Makos inquired.
“Probably because it’s safer and quieter,” Nate replied. “A lot of humans moved to a pack because they could meet their mate or business,” Felix said. “Well, she is a writer. She has written six books in the past four years. So, there is that.” Nate replied. “See, business,” Felix said. “She is a writer for the Red Moon publishing firm. And she is fantasy fiction. She writes about adventure stories. She is one of the top five best-selling with the firm.” Nate said. “Again, business,” Felix commented. “Who is her editor?” asked Cain. “Owen,” Nate said. “Owen?” questioned Makos. “Call him,” Cain said. Nate pulled his phone out and called Owen.
“I don’t know. He works for the publishing firm.” Makos said. “Where did you think he worked? Do you pay attention at all?” asked Cain. Makos rolled his eyes at Cain. “You know that I’m not in people’s business,” Makos said. “It’s not a matter whether you are in their business. It’s a matter whether you pay attention when they talk to you and not tune them out like you always do.” Cain responded. “Are we going to do this now?” asked Makos.
“Hello.” “Hello Owen, it’s beta Nate calling.” “Oh, hello and good evening, beta Nate. What can I do for you?” “Good afternoon, Owen.” Nate chuckles. “I’m good. Thank you for asking.” Cain then motions to Nate to hand him the phone. “One second Owen, Alpha wants to talk to you.” “Oh, okay.” Nate handed the phone to Cain. “Owen, it’s the alpha.” “Hello, alpha, how are you? And is there something wrong?” “Nothing is wrong. I’m good. Thank you for asking.” “I have some things to say and ask.” “Okay.”
“First, I have discovered miss Pamela, your writer, and author. She is my mate, Our luna.” “Oh, that is amazing news.” “Yes, it is, but she is human.” “Oh, yes, that.” “So, I’m unable to explain to her about the matter without her shutting me down.” “I see.” “So, my brother, beta, gamma, and I was discussing how to approach her in a friendly matter. And discuss the situation to her without conflict.” “I see. Would like me to talk to her. I’m supposed to have a meeting with her this weekend.” “Yes, that would make things easy. But can you also invite her to the festival next?” “Ah, yes, the festival. I have been trying to invite her to the festival for a couple of years now. But she not very sociable.” “Really? I would never have guessed?” Owen laughed. “Yeah, I do my best to get her the festival.” “If you can’t convince her to go, that's okay. Just you talking to her about mating is enough to get the ball rolling.” “Okay, I’ll remember to talk to her about it.” “Okay, have a good day, Owen.” “Have a good day, alpha.”
