Prologue
“What do you see doctor?” A middle aged lady bursts into the sterilised room. Her crimson red dress contrasts the generic white all over the room and sends a mist of unwanted thoughts through the minds of its occupants.
All but one are swayed in the direction of the alluring woman, and the sharp flick of her eyebrows shows she isn’t pleased about it. She walks to his table, her heels clanking conspicuously in the previously silent room. She puts her elbows down on the stacks of paper piled high on his table and her dead eyes pierce through his glasses. They maintain the eye contact for a minute or so, until very calmly, he speaks. “It’s manifesting. Ready for harvest,”
“You know what to do,” Her lips dry as she stares at the red button in front of him. “One push and it starts,”
“You must be glad,” He knows what he is about to do is the single most crazy thing he can think of, but he also knows who is standing in front of him. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, he chooses the deep blue sea. Without waiting for her to ask again, he presses it. A single electronic beep resonates through the whole room followed by silence.
“Yes, I am.” She takes a deep breath as she returns to her stiff posture. “War is here. Finally.” Her expression doesn’t change even as she tries to smile.
