John Turner's Average Day
People are born, they live, and they die. It is a fate all humans share.
While humans are living their lives, their brains must find a purpose for being. They must indulge themselves in various emotions and stimuli. Happiness and sadness. Excitement and boredom. Pleasure and pain.
These emotions may be activated through various activities such as eating something you enjoy, making new friends, failing a test, or, as the theme of this story will be... falling in love.
Love ticks off all the boxes of emotions a human can experience over time. Fear of rejection, the happiness of acceptance, the pleasure of being with each other, the pain of losing them, and so on.
This is a story of a boy and a girl who have helplessly fallen in love. These individuals have never dabbled in the war zone of romance, and mind you, it is indeed... a war zone.
???: John! Get up this instant it's time for school!
John: Just five more minutes... zzzzzzzzzz.....zzzzz...
???: John!!!
John: Alright! Alright, Mom! I'm awake...
An inevitable outcome.
He takes the covers off of himself, scratching his head and trying to open his eyes.
John: I even wanted to sleep early last night but I didn't notice the time because I was enjoying playing the new game that came out.
A true gamer.
He gets up and follows his daily routine of using the toilet, brushing his teeth, and changing his clothes, all the while still lethargic and sluggish with his actions. After putting on the shirt he's been wearing for two days in a row and a good solid neck crack later, he walks down the stairs.
The usual morning scene greets him. He looks to the left where he sees his mother cooking some eggs on the stove. The smell of fried eggs increases his appetite for a good breakfast. His step-father was sitting on the kitchen table, reading a newspaper.
Let's just say that due to the existence of this man, his mornings have never started on a good note.
Mom: Oh, honey! How long have you been wearing those clothes?
John: I haven't taken a shower yet. Besides, it's my favorite shirt.
Mom: Oh you're just hopeless. You should at least learn how to stay sanitary. Anyways, I made eggs.
She brings over the food to the kitchen table and John immediately starts wolfing down his toast and eggs.
???: You should eat a little slower. The food's not going anywhere, ya know.
A look of annoyance appears on John's face.
John: I'm gonna eat however I want. You're not my dad, Todd.
Mom: John!
Todd: No, it's alright, darling. It's just a phase, he'll come around.
The number of times he's heard this man say that it's just a phase was numerous and John was getting pissed off by this comment since day one.
John looked at his hands and realized he was clenching them into a fist without him realizing it. Releasing them slowly, he stands up and grabs his school bag, saying he was done with breakfast even though he was still hungry. He couldn't look at the man anymore without the urge to punch him and John knew, he would have gladly indulged in the urge if it weren't for his mother still present among them. As he was wearing his sneakers, he heard his mother's voice behind him...
Mom: John... are you still unsatisfied with us?
John: ...
Mom: I know you don't like the decision I made and you think I'm selfish, and you have every right to think that I was selfish but, I want you to trust me on this one, John. He's a good man and-
John: Mom, I'm glad you're happy but, I just can't feel the same way as you do. I'm sorry. I need to head out now.
Mom: Oh um... okay. Have fun at school!
John: Yeah...
Humans are complicated. One person's happiness could be the other person's sadness. The reason why humans are complicated is that humans have the ability to reason, and every human is different, so human reasoning varies which leads to complications in the long run.
That is also why humans are the most dominant species in the world. Reasoning. Animals never deviate from their natural behaviors. Trees intake carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen which is wonderful for the environment but they stay in one spot forever.
The sun will always rise from the east and set at the west and night will always come...
But humans? Humans are different because we can reason, and since we have that, we are complicated.
Now that our male protagonist has been introduced, we will now look over at the female protagonist. What kind of person is she? How will her day start off? Better or worse?
I am just the narrator and I do nothing but narrate the story. The one to judge these people is you, and fill the missing blanks with your imagination.
