It is told, that long ago elves were uncountable across the continent of Alteria. There were three species of elves that specialized in different disciplines of nature. There were the Snow Elves of the north, Sea Elves of the eastern waters, and High Elves of the central forests. Each of these species of Elves were renowned for their culture and magic. Snow Elves were elegant creatures, white as the snow that surrounds them. They built grand spires, of crystal and ice. Wise, and keepers of knowledge they had the historical texts of all Elves. The High Elves of the forest, were experts in magic, and could sing cities out of forests, and bend the earth to their will. They made nature their own and saw themselves within the image of the forests. Their skin was dark, and rich like the bark of a tree. The most elusive of all of the Elves were the Elves of the Sea. The Sea elves were more segregated from the others, and instead of a friendship, between species, they had tolerance. The Sea Elves rarely left their boats and islands that they resided. They only left to trade with their elf brethren. The Sea Elves could build massive ships that carried thousands across their seas. A hint of blue or green could be seen under their tanned complexions, just like the waters they journeyed across.

The elves were all connected with each other. They lived in a grand society rich with knowledge, a world of magic and technology. |The elves could live for eternity, together their magic was strongest. This was a magic that flowed through the earth and through its people.

A society so grand they thought it would never fall, however fate cannot be altered, not even by these great people. A new race came from the mountains in the south. The race of man. Humans multiplied like wildfire, their numbers soon outnumbered the slow growing eternal elves. The humans invaded the High Elves forests and built northwards. The High elves hid their existence at first, hoping to be able to co–exist in secret with the invaders. Humans were cold, and ruthless. Man could not connect to nature in the same way the elves did, and thus slash and burned forests for their farms and agriculture. Forests were destroyed and left forgotten, never to be replanted. Soon the High Elves decided that they could hide no longer. They organized a council to approach the humans and stop their destruction. The human lords were reasoned with and a truce was created.

The humans would approach no further upon the high elves land, and they would be able to trade with the High Elves. This truce worked for generations of humans, however as the human kingdoms grew larger they began to need more space. On a mission to arrange more for his people, a human king died suddenly on elven territory. His son newly crowned was young and untested in politics. He saw this event as treason and the grounds for war. This so called act of treason united the human kings under one banner. The restless new king began a war against the High Elves, burning forests and destroying Elven cities. The High Elves fought back, they called upon the aid of their neighbors, the Snow and Sea Elves. The Snow elves sent what troops they had, but neither the High nor Snow elves were militant people, for never before had such war been torn across Alteria. The Sea Elves refused to answer, and did not come to their aid. Instead, the Sea Elves left their islands and crossed the sea, claiming that their lands were lost and they would not die with it. The Sea Elves were right in a way, for elves are strongest together, as the Sea Elves left, much of the magic in the land died. Grand forests began to wither, and rivers dried leaving the remaining elves in shock and loss.

Their loss continued in the human wars, for every tree that was burned and every elf that was killed, the elves were weakened. Soon there were no elves left for the humans to fight in the forests. The Snow Elves called back their troops to their icy domain, begging the High Elves to retreat with them. However the High Elves could not survive the frozen tundra’s of the North, and refused to leave the lands they were born in. When the humans finished their conquest of the forests they began to march north. For years humans attempted to take over the Snow Elves, but humans could not adapt to the cold, and could never penetrate their borders. So they surrendered their conquest. Returning to the central provinces of Alteria, telling the countryside that they had won the war, and that elves had been exterminated off their lands. This history became legends to the future humans. With every generation that passed, the story and belief of the elves waned. They became simply the creatures that scared children at night.

The death and departure of the High and Sea Elves caused a catastrophic event among the snow elves, they lost their eternity. As the elves and the elves land died the magic that flowed through the elves veins died as well. Their immortality faded. The Snow Elves became more human, and began to die. The Snow Elves grand magic left them. Spells became harder and harder to complete, and without the presence of other Elves many spells became obsolete. Soon the Snow Elves aged liked humans. They lived, grew old and died. The desire to have children and offspring formed within them as they realized this was the only way to continue their once great people. As hundreds of years past without the other elves, magic began to leave them. Soon few elves were born with any magic left within them at all.

Then the day they feared would come was realized, a generation was born where no elves possessed magic. The magicless dark ages lasted nearly a millennia. The writings of the old texts were lost and the elves began to lose themselves. This era is remembered as the era of lost eternity in elven history, for they saw themselves as nothing but a shadow of their formal selves. The Snow Elves were left in a world, of old magic that is lost to them. They were living in the world their ancestors created, but they could no longer maintain. The grand crystal spires began to crumble around them, and the only thing they could do was watch in sorrow, for they could not rebuild what was lost. The Snow Elves only desire turned into the need to reclaim and rebuild their once great selves.

Then, there was hope. A child was born – with magic. Soon more and more children were born with magic, they were not numerous, but they were there. As the generations continued the magical elves began to relearn the old ways. However this task proved difficult because much was lost and had to be reinterpreted and understood once more. Yet relearn they did.

Confused and in awe of this gift returned upon their people, the monarchy and the people wanted to know why magic had returned. So, the heirs of the Elven throne were sent on a yearlong mission to try and discover why magic returned to the lands before they had their coronation. After generations of not finding the answer, the quest became more ceremonial over purposeful. For nothing was ever found.

Until, Renmir returned, Son of Fanmor the 127th king of the Snow Elves.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
