Chapter 1: The new girl
As June continued to walk along the busy streets of New York towards her new work building, she quickly made a pit stop at the smallest coffee shop she could spot to avoid any contact with the busy people of the Big Apple’s morning rush hour.
I haven't even started my job, but could it perhaps be too early to take some leave days?
She smiled at her silly thought while waiting to be served.

The minute she entered the building she quickly rushed to the ladies' room to make sure she looked neat and pretty enough for her first day.
June had light caramel skin, with long curly hair black hair which she tied into a pretty high bun while her soft curly bangs curtained her face freely with the longer curls dancing alongside her short silver earrings.
For make-up, she only wore foundation and a bit of blush with a strawberry-tinted Chapstick that accentuated her rosy lips. She had tucked a black and white polka dot shirt, into a skinny fitting formal black pants, and pulled the outfit together with a matching black blazer and heeled ankle boots.
The minute she got back to reception, the receptionist distastefully looked her up and down, making June almost want to tear up in doubt and insecurity.
Is it my hair? Or is it my outfit? It must be the shirt. Maybe she's not a fan of polka dots. No, I won't let her get to me. Now is not the time for self-consciousness. Confidence, June! It's your first day. I got this.
“Level 1. Mr Lewis is waiting for you,” she said in a tired uninterested tone as she broke eye contact to continue the loud clacking of her long nails onto her computer's keyboard.
June got into the elevator and entered the first floor to report to her manager.
“Damn, are you the new girl? , fuck meee I can get used to seeing this ass around the office,” Said one of the guys huddled in a group by a corner cubicle as she took the turn. Her face heated up as she nervously walked even faster down the corridor towards where she assumed was Mr lewis’s office.
“Don't be shy baby girl, come over and say hi!” A second guy hollered, spurring more laughter from his friends.
Dear god no, please no. I can't work with these people!
June continued walking so fast while looking down that she bumped hard into what felt like a concrete chest. Becoming slightly disoriented, she stumbled back. The large man caught her and held her in place, looking down at her with concern.
“I..I'm so sorry sir, I didn't see you” She says softly while still looking down, visibly worried and still slightly disorientated from all the recent events.
“That's okay little girl, are you lost?” He gently put his hand on her chin to lift it slightly so he could get a proper answer. His voice was deep, but he audibly tried to sound softer for the little person in front of him.
She shook slightly as she felt his hand on her chin. When he lifted it to meet his gaze, she saw the darkest grey eyes she'd ever seen. Clean-shaven sharp jawline with chiselled short jet-black hair, and further trimmed sides. He looked stunning. She noticed his face darken and her eyes widened as she gulped, trying to soothe her now dry throat.
“I asked you a question, little one.” She winced confusingly at the term he used to describe her.
He looked at her with an unimpressed expression, daring her to take up more of his time. He looked to be heading somewhere.
“Y-yes sir, im looking for Mr Lewis’s office,” She says with tears forming in her eyes. His eyes softened as he witnessed the formation of her tears.
“Hey, what's wrong?”
“I... it's my first day, and.. and im going to be late,” Her answer laced with worry and concern.
“That's okay sweetheart, I'll take you to Mr Lewis.”
She looked at him with newfound hope.
“Thank you, sir,” She gratefully expressed as she wiped away the forming tears.
Not all heroes wear capes... I can still turn this day around.
He walked up to the office June was looking for, knocked twice with authority and opened the door for her.
“In you go little girl, watch where you're going next time” He winked at her before leaving in the opposite direction, heading towards the elevator. June blushed profusely at the gesture and got lost in the smell of his expensive cologne that lingered after he had left.
Be still my beating heart, did he just wink at me?
“June!? Where’s your head at!?” She got back into reality and realized that the door he had opened, allowed Mr Lewis to see her face staring starry-eyed into the direction of the elevator.
“June, I haven't got all day! You're late! I just finished a meeting with our biggest sponsor who is threatening to pull out of our campaigns!” His high phlegmy voice reverberated from his big belly through his vocal cords in distress.
“Here! This is all the files of our current campaign stats. I need you to go through all of them and place the statistics into the relevant graphs and pie charts!”
He roughly placed a stack of flip files into June's shaky arms causing her to almost stumble over.
“The meeting is on Wednesday, so I need them all sent out to HR and Tyron by the end of tomorrow’s working day! Am I clear!?” He spat at her with annoyance and stress.
“Y-Yes sir,” she said quickly before heading out of the office to find a cubicle but stopped in her tracks-
“Uh, sorry sir, w-who’s Tyron?”
“Tyron is the head of campaigning! You would have known that if you came in on time!” He sighed in distress, then took one more look at her admiring the petite shape of her body.
“Oh, and June... that won't do. Make sure to be in your best professional attire with a pair of heels on Wednesday. You will be assisting us with filing and beverages in the boardroom.” He stated matter of factly, leaving no room for question.
“Yes sir, will do,” She said as she turned around not wanting him to see the emotional effect his shouting is inducing in her.
Worst first day ever!
