Chapter 1
The cold never bothered me. In fact I enjoyed it. The brushing of that spine chilling wind against my whole body even after wearing two layers of clothing. I enjoyed it. Unlike many others.
The sun had set. Some stars had began to appear. The streets were busy. The shops well lit. People going about like there's nothing wrong in the town. I decided to make a stop at the convenient store. Exam season's over and i have already planned my holidays. I didn't plan to go back home and planned to stay in my apartment for most of the vacation. I pick out the ingredients needed for the recipe i have been trying to attempt for a week and its finally the day. The cashier takes a glance a me.
"Its not safe for a lady like you to roam these streets at this time."
I say nothing nor take a glance at him. I get out of the store and the cold wind greets me again. I quicken my pace. I'm done with humans for the day.
I enter my apartment building and check my mailbox. Nothing as usual. I look towards the elevator and see two ladies standing waiting for it.
Stairs it is.
I reach my front door. It's nothing fancy, just a small apartment at the perfect distance from my classes. It has the perfect ratio of students to families just for my need. I fished out my key from my bag and checked the apartment number again and put the key in the lock.
The key turned giving me a sense of surety that this is my home. I open the door and the half-open window with flowing blue curtains opposite the door ensured me again that I was in the right place. I threw my bag somewhere on the sofa. I quickly turned around and locked my door jerking the handle twice to make sure it's actually locked. I keep the items I brought from the convenient store on the coffee table and go into the bathroom and take a quick shower revising my holiday plan for the millionth time. After showering I open my fridge and take out the ingredients i bought yesterday and took out the utensils and arrange the recently bought items at their designated places.
I start cooking as I search for shows on Netflix. The rice cooker beeped signalling my final ingredient was done. I go to take out the rice. Just then my door bell rang.
No. I'm not doing it. I'm done for the day.
I walk towards my kitchen.
The bell starts going furiously.
No. Ring all you want.
I start plating.
The bell keeps going.
Just a bit more.
The bell stops.
Peace at last.
The bell starts going again.
I guess i have to make a change to my rule for today.
I open the door. "What?"
"5th floor lady is asking why didn't you come to the apartment meeting yesterday?"
"Does my presence make a difference?"
She stays silent. But her silence gives the answer.
"Come on, You could atleast meet the other residents. And we could have had somefun together. " She says plastering an irritating fake smile.
"I have no intention to."
That takes her back. "Come on you are always alone. I always see you alone. You should go out and have some fun. Get a boyfriend. All the girls your age have one."
"Thank you so much for thinking about me but I'm budy right now. Excuse me."
I slam the door before she can say anything else.
I'm not letting my food get cold over this stupid argument. She seemed like she wanted to tell me something but I'll see to that later.
My food turned out good though. The start of my vacation seems pretty good.
