Twisted Day
“SCARLETT, SCARLETT...” I heard some familiar voice screaming my name, and my eyes shot open. Soon I realized that it was my mom calling my name out loud.
“What?” I called out angrily.
“Don’t you dare talk to me like that - DO YOU UNDERSTAND?”
“Yes,” I said calmly to avoid further consequences.
“Good. Now come down for breakfast and hurry up. If you got late today too, then we will withdraw you from university. Okay?” mom shouted angrily.
“Yes, mom,” I replied, rolling my eyes.
I swiftly went under the shower. The warm water brushed all over my body, making me relaxed from exhausting life for a moment. Though it was a heavenly feeling to stay under the water, I had to come out quickly. So, I don’t have to deal with her again for not listening to her.
Promptly, I got ready for my classes with casual clothes, not too fancy, including a messy bun and a pair of white sneakers, and went downstairs for breakfast only to get another round of lectures. I don’t get it - why does my mom hate me so much?
Her lecture continued for straight fifteen minutes, and if it wasn’t for my classes, I bet she would have continued for at least an hour.
I took my backpack and walked out of my house, and just a few blocks away, I met my childhood friend James. We like went to university together every day. Our university is not too far, so my parents have forbidden me to use any vehicles or transport facilities to university. So, James accompanies me by walking with me to university.
“Hey, beautiful,” he said, pulling out his hand for a handshake.
“Stop it,” I replied, giving a pat on his back.
“What? That’s a fact.” he giggled.
“No, it’s not. Anyways what are you doing after classes?”
“Nothing much.”
“Perfect. I needed your help in completing my project.”
“Oh, okay,” he replied in amusement.
“So, I’ll see you later, I guess?”
“Yeah, of course,” he responded, giving a smile.
“Okay, I am getting late. See you later.” I stated hurriedly.
“Bye.”
“Bye,” I said, waving off.
Though we both study in the same university, James is one grade ahead of me, and so his classes are different than mine. James is only a year older than me - still, it feels like he is my big brother rather than a best friend - always protecting me around.
I entered the class and took a seat on the last bench. The idea behind this is - so professors don’t notice me among us, plus I don’t fancy hanging out with these people much.
The lecture has already commenced feeling endless though it has only been 20 min. I am already feeling consumed with the day that I want to disappear anywhere but here. Surprisingly, my imagination took out most of the time of the lecture that, when did it end, I didn’t realize.
Fortunately, today I had all my lectures in the same class, unlike other days, as some professors are busy with other works, so they switched their lectures with our other professors.
My upcoming lecture is “Non-fiction literature,” which is my favorite subject since it doesn’t contain absurd drama as of fiction one. Besides, I don’t get the purpose of having this subject, since all the characters or plot it has, it doesn’t exist.
The rest of the day went pretty tedious, but a good thing that happened was that our classes ended early. So I had to wait for James we could talk about the project and complete it before time.
I was waiting for him outside the campus entrance, and a few minutes later, I noticed someone’s presence, as if someone was keeping an eye on me. I neglected it since only 15 minutes were there before I left this place.
All of a sudden, I felt someone grab me by the waist and shut my mouth with an enormous and robust hand. The grip was so tight that I was unable to breathe at that moment, and I fainted.
