****Flashback*****
"I can't believe you're moving!" I cried as I wrapped my best friend Bri in what seemed like the millionth hug of the day. "And worse it's right before we were supposed to start being seniors together. We were gonna rule the school!" I whined.
"You'll be able to rule it without me! Who knows, without you bugging me maybe you'll find a hot guy to date" Bri teased.
"That is so not funny! You know I would rather go through it with you" I complained.
"Well it's only 2 years and then we can both go to the same college" Bri laughed.
"Alright I guess I don't have a choice" I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Why don't we write to each other?" Bri suggested.
"Why would we do that when we can just video call?" I asked.
"Well I don't know how long internet will take to get set up... and it would be kind of cool to bring letter writing back, don't you think?" She smiled.
"But then you won't get my news for a few days. What if something big happens?" I retorted.
"Well how about we save the important stuff for calls and the smaller stuff for letters? We can always try it out and if it doesn't work we can stop" Bri pushed.
"Alright you win. We can try it, but don't be made when you can't read my sloppy writing!" I laughed.
"You know I can read it fine. You have neat cursive writing, why not use that over printing?" She asked.
"Because no one writes that way anymore" I said in a duh tone.
"Well do it for me? I'll send stickers on my letters if you do" she bribed.
"Okay but they better be awesome stickers" I glared at her and she laughed. "Give me the address and stuff so I can put it in my phone. That way I won't mess up when I go to send them" I said seriously.
"Alright pass me your phone" Bri said as I reluctantly handed her my phone. She typed in the address and then took a bunch of selfies.
"Hey! I thought you were just giving me the info, not plugging my phone up with selfies!" I said as I tried to snatch the phone. Sadly it was impossible because I was a fair bit shorter than her.
"Alright fine, here " she said as she rolled her eyes at me and handed me the phone.
I snatched it and put it quickly into my purse. "I'm really gonna miss you" I sighed sadly.
"You know what will help with that?" She asked with a huge smile.
"Ice cream?" I asked.
"Ice cream!" She shouted happily.
"That's what I just said!" I slapped her arm playfully. "And Bri I am serious, I'll really miss you" I sighed.
"I'll miss you too bestie. Now let's go! Ice cream awaits" Bri said as she looped her arm around mine and we proceeded to walk to our favourite spot.
Having ice cream was relaxing as always. We talked and laughed about everything. We even had a talk about the boys we thought were cute and clubs we wanted to join. For a while it almost felt like she wasn't leaving and we would be like this forever. But then we walked home and the moving truck was parked in her driveway, fully loaded.
"Time to go!" Bri's mom shouted as she waved at us.
I walked beside Bri to the truck. Our houses were right next to each other, so hanging out was always really easy. But now she was moving to almost the other side of the country... I hope our friendship will survive this. I wrapped Bri in a hug and started crying... Bri and I have been best friends since kindergarten... we grew up together and she was an important part of my life. It's really hard to say goodbye. "Bye... you better write and text and call. And don't you dare leave out any details!" I warned through my tears.
"I will. Make sure you write back too! I'll miss you bestie... but we'll see each other again. Only a couple years until we can be together again!" Bri tried to cheer me up, like always.
"I'm holding you to that!" I warned as I pulled out of the hug.
"I expect no less" Bri chuckled but both of us had tears rolling down our cheeks.
I watched as she got into the truck with her parents and drove off. I waved and chased the truck until it was out of sight.
I sighed... I guess it's just me now....
*****fast forward to the end of the year*****
Bri and I wrote each other everyday like we promised. I quite liked writing actually... it was relaxing to have the pen flow against the page and think through my thoughts. The year was pretty uneventful without Bri... it just wasn't the same. I still tried to fo my best in school to get good grades, but I never did join any clubs... maybe next year.
I always looked forward to getting mail from Bri. Her new school seemed pretty exciting. She joined the cheer squad and met a couple of girls that she became friends with. Tiffany and Sarah were their names. They seemed pretty cool when I met them over video chat.
I wasn't sure if they would be the type I would hang out with though. They both seemed way too cheerful all the time and cared way too much about being popular. Thankfully Bri was still the same and didn't let it change her.
We sent each other gifts over the holidays and my parents even said that I can visit her this summer! I'm really looking forward to it, even though it'll only be for a couple weeks. My parents saw that I was struggling without Bri and they hadn't seen me make any friends. They were always trying to cheer me up and encourage me to get out more. They even agreed to drive me anywhere, even parties and my parents are strict so you can imagine how surprised I was!
I guess they didn't want me to be alone through my senior year. They also got a bit worried that I never started dating, but my dad never complained about that. I was his little princess after all... and I had no siblings so he could be protective at times.
Hopefully this year will be better!
