She opened her eyes, it took her a while to get used to the darkness.
She must've slept behind the wheel, her neck was very sore with some early signs of migraine, pain was weaving in and out like sunshine on a cloudy day.
Her day was long, however it isn't over yet. She saved the biggest task for last.
Eva is a government agent, needless to say the agency has so many letters in its name, they cover up mistakes other agencies agents commit.
The last case was different though, she had a weird feeling about it, something smelled fishy so to speak.
The sound of thunder snapped her back to reality, she turned the car on and started driving through the suburbs, parked in a dark spot down the road, checked her makeup in the backseat mirror and stepped out.
It was starting to rain, a cold breeze blew her brown hair around, as she was walking up to the brightest house in the neighborhood, it was a modern two story villa.
The door bell was echoing in the hallway, as a tall, well dressed man opened the door.
She said : " Hello mr.Anderson, I am Holly stone, we talked on the phone. "
Without a reply he stepped aside and pointed with his hands, inviting her in, then closed the door behind.
Three hours later loud music started playing and that went on for two hours before one of the neighbours called the police.
Nobody answered the door, so they had to force open it.
Eva was back home, just came out of the shower, when her phone started buzzing.
She got a text from an anonymous number saying " if I were you, I'd watch the news right now "
The TV was already on, so she switched channels and couldn't believe her eyes, she was the star of the show, it was her picture and underneath stood written with the well-known glowing red letters " murder suspect "
The newscaster was interviewing a sweaty middle aged man with a lisp.
He said " detective Sunclair, can you describe the crime scene please "
It seems like it was the detectives first time getting interviewed, because he seemed inappropriately excited as he replied : " gruesome, the victim died of blood loss after being stabbed too many times, it's a very clear indication of a crime of passion. "
He looked somewhat proud of his conclusion and then continued " we already have a suspect and every police officer is looking for her and we won't stop until she sits behind prison bars"
The newscaster then said:" Thank you detective sinclair, we plead our good citizens, to call the numbers showing on the screen, if you see her,
She is dangerous so please be cautious. "
It took her a while to grasp the situation.
She was in disbelief, as her first thought was, "this can't be happening, i did my homework, checked everything more than once, my only job was to retrieve a piece of evidence and I left him well and very much alive. "
She knew what that meant, her cover was blown, so she can't expect help from the agency.
She then remembered that her son, Micheal, was staying with her sister.
She tried calling her but nobody answered.
She felt her heart skip a beat, her instincts were on alert, as sirens were blowing outside.
She barely made it out as police cars were swamping the area.
Everybody knows how she looks now , so she has to change her looks, luckily she had some cash on her.
The streets were nearly empty, it took a while until she could find a drugstore.
She hid in her hoodie like a tortoise and went in, looking for the essentials: burner phones, hair dye, spray tan, a wig and a change of clothes.
After paying, Eva asked the cashier, who was luckily a woman, if there was a place for her to change.
The cashier noded and pointed toward a backroom, then said : " you can change there and don't worry, I am the only one working at the moment "
Eva thanked her and went in, she tried her sister again, still no answer, she broke the sim-card, changed quickly and then got back to the street.
Police cars were still swapping the area.
She even saw some police officers, showing some pedestrians one of her photos.
Footsteps were the only thing that could be heard in the empty, dark neighborhoods, except for the far car noises, as she was making her way toward her sister's apartment.
As she was getting closer, more and more people were starting to show up.
Almost everyone was looking at their smartphone, they were looking at her picture.
“someone must really want me to get caught” Eva thought since it was forbidden for agents to have any sort of online presence, she didn't expect something like that.
The makeover was definitely a good idea.
She finally got to the grocery store near her sister's place, but couldn't take any step further.
old jerry, who always sat at the building's entrance wasn't there, instead some strangers were standing there chatting, she knew what that meant and got into the store.
