Wise Old Warrior

He stands steadfast before his opposition

Old warrior wielding weapons of peace

Facts are his sword, statistics his shield

Passion and dedication his armor.

But he has a fateful fatal flaw,

He chooses to fight only with honor.

Resolute in stance and demeanor

He’s waged this war his entire life.

But his opponents keep changing,

And disguising themselves in blue.

His armor and arms can’t protect him

From the snakes that gather in the grass.

He’s a champion of progress, cruel joke

Because that’s the opposite of Congress

And oh no, he calls himself a socialist,

But he’s also not socialist enough?

Still, he seeks to repair and reform

While others distort and deform,

He remains firm on his platform.

The wise old warrior stricken down,

As he has been before, and will again.

And he stands back up, once more.

But when he cannot rise again,

When the warrior meets his end

Who will don his heavy armor,

And take up his sword and shield?

The armor is more burden then protection,

The sword easily bent, shield quick to dent.

They may be ineffective in this sly war

But does that make them any less right?

We can bear this armor together,

Wield weapons of progress as one.

We must stand in solidarity, as a unified front.

Let’s leave our egos behind, where they belong.

We can put our petty differences aside,

And focus on the causes that we believe in.

The wise warrior’s legacy must not fade away.
