Prologue

I was preparing the Thanksgiving dinner and it was the most difficult ordeal I had yet faced in life. I had cooked before with the help of my mother and Alba but never alone. Tonight I was hoping to surprise Danny with his favorite onion soup and Schnitzel.

I used my superpower of finding out anything I want and looked through the best recipes in the world. That wasn't much trouble but carrying on the instructions was a different thing altogether. I had no special power to do that, so I had to rely on my human skills.

In a matter of minutes, I realized, I couldn’t even chop vegetables properly. They looked like a messy puddle.

But I went on, trying very hard to do as much as I could and when it was ready, I clicked a few pictures of the very first meal I had prepared all by myself.

I called Daniel to check on him but he didn’t pick up his phone. He must be busy or driving, I thought. I decided I'll use the time to straighten the kitchen. It was done quickly enough and Daniel still wasn’t there. I tried calling him again but with no better luck.

I grew pensive and trudged along the driveway when I saw his car closing in. Relief flooded through me and as soon as he was out of the car, I sprinted towards him to pull him into a hug.

“Where were you? I’ve been so worried,” I whispered and before he could answer I drove my lips towards his but he pulled away.

“Wait, don’t touch me. You’ll regret it,” he stated in a strangely firm and cold voice.

It didn’t sound like him but the voice wasn’t unfamiliar. I backed off slowly asking, “What are you talking about Daniel?”

“I’m not Daniel,” he murmured a little softly this time.

Assuming that this must be some kind of trick he’s playing at me, I chuckled, “Well, who are you then?”

“I’m Rhon,” he answered.

It was Rhon’s voice, I conceived. Not Rhon’s voice. But Rhon’s tone somehow in Daniel’s voice. But how and why was this? I couldn’t speak for a few seconds and nor did he.

“Where’s Daniel?” I muttered fearfully.

“I think he’s dead.”

Bound to Kill

mmslanker: Bound to kill was a fun read. I really liked the plot, but it did start to feel like it was rushed and hopping around towards the middle to the end. There were a couple of red herrings and surprises that made the story more interesting, and I enjoyed the inclusion of multiple supernatural species and...
