Prologue

She stood on a raised platform of blue mats. Her ears were rushing and her eyes were darting. She couldn’t see past the blinding lights centred on her, she couldn’t make out past the rope that was surrounding her. Her heart was pounding and she could feel the sweat dripping from her face, from her hair. From her whole body.

Where was she?

She couldn’t remember what had happened or even what her name was. She flinched away from a busy suddenly next to hers. Who was he? Why was her head itching?

What was going on?

All she could think about is her brothers voice in her head, 1, 2, 1, 2. Jab, jab, uppercut.

The man held her hand and suddenly the motion opened her mind.

Oh god it was the finals. It was the competition. It was -

Wait did she, did she win? Did she lose? She couldn’t think, she couldn’t recall.

The rushing was quieting down, replaced by the screams and cheers of the crowd. Her voice joined the rest.

She drew away from the ref and went under the ropes to her friends and family seats.

Whilst she was screaming with them a pair of blue oceans stared at her, memorised her features and engraved them before turning and leaving forever

Bargara4670: This was a refreshingly different love story. Both Hadleigh and Grant were strong and likeable characters. It was satisfying to see their relationship develop. I wonder if this story will be the first in a series. I would be interested to find out if Marina is bonded.
