Chapter 1: A Sweet Life
It is a beautiful day at the beach town, a single Polish-American mother named Evangelina Philips who had successfully escaped from her abusive marriage and took her mixed-race son Lucas with her when she got away from her abusive ex-husband Benjamin, starts a new life in their new beach home.
Evangelina and her two best friends: Bianca “Blaze” Jones and Jennifer Rosswell owned their bookstore called "Stars of the Bookshop".
“This looks perfect, Evangelina.” said Bianca. “Yeah, everyone is going to love our bookstore when they going to see it sooner or later.” said Evangelina. “And the music playing in the speakers sounded so nice.” said Jennifer. “Yeah, I agree with you, Jen. It’s so amazing that I got away from the ex-man of my dreams who beat me and that he won’t find me again. This place cheers me up when we owned it together.” said Evangelina.
“Hey, check it out. There’s a magazine about the infamous soft rock singer Miss Lakey Costa.” said Bianca. “A singer who sings the cover of Stevie Nicks’s Edge of Seventeen song?” said Jennifer. “Yep, remember that she’s retiring from music career due to her bad mental health after she got cheated on by her boyfriend?” said Bianca. “Yeah, we heard the news about her before.” said Jennifer. “I kinda feel bad for the singer that she got cheated on, I hope she moves on.” said Evangelina.
“She is. She posted her post, saying that she is currently moving on from her previous relationship and she came out as a lesbian, she is focusing on her spirituality and she is working as an agent from the police station.” said Jennifer.
“Really? How did you know?” said Bianca and Evangelina.
“I followed her on Instagram.” said Jennifer.
“Wow, she came out as a lesbian?” Said Evangelina.
“Mm, hmm.” said Jennifer.
“Never realized that before.” said Evangelina.
“Did you listened to her songs before?” said Bianca.
“Few of them, of course. On the radio.” Said Evangelina.
“Were they good.” said Bianca. “Not too shabby, the woman got a pretty voice.” said Evangelina. “We agree with you, Eva.” said Jennifer. “It’s 3 PM, I gotta go pick my son up from school.” said Evangelina.
“OK, Evangelina. We’ll keep an eye on the customers coming.” said Bianca. “OK, see you later.” said Evangelina. “You, too.” said Bianca.
Evangelina leaves to go pick her son up from school, she goes inside her car to drive off.
At Lucas’s elementary school, it is dismissal time. Evangelina is at the school pick up line, Lucas leaves the school and gets in the front seat.
“How was school today, Lucas?” said Evangelina. “It was good.” said Lucas. “That’s good, sweetie. Come on, let’s go to my job at my own bookstore.” said Evangelina.
“You owned a bookstore?” said Lucas. “Yep, The Stars of the Bookshop.” said Evangelina.
