The lead

Alaric’s POV

Taking a deep breath in of the ridiculously pungent smell of the city around him, Alaric shook his head in disgust and adjusted his leather jacket. He hoped this place would be it. He had hunted down thousands of leads in the past years only for the trail to run cold. As he started making his way towards the neon lights just down the road from him Lucas and Emily appeared on either side of him.

“Well well well. Whose ready to have some fun?,” Lucas asked as he rubbed his hands together from Alaric’s right side. Alaric spared him a glare to remind him that they were here on business. He was wearing a black leather jacket and a blood red t-shirt with jeans and biker boots. They both were about the same height. Similar in muscular build except that Lucas wasn’t quite as bulky, had jet black hair and green eyes. Alaric had dark brown hair and deep blue eyes. He wore a deep blue button up shirt, biker pants and boots.

“Me,” Emily said a little too excitedly making Lucas snicker at her. “What,” she asked still excited, “it feels like ages since we’ve been out on another lead.” Emily was wearing a skintight red mini dress with matching red heels accentuating her curves and long legs. Her hazel eyes and pale complexion made her look almost vampire like in her bright colors. She flicked her blonde hair behind her shoulders as she smiled at them. Obviously someone was here to mix business with pleasure.

Alaric was too tense to find any humor in either of his companions this evening. This lead was far too important to him. Rage, his inner wolf was dying to take charge of this situation already. “It’s been a few days Emily,” he said aggravated. His wolf adding edge to his voice making Emily cringe slightly under his alpha power. “I had to attend to the pack’s needs before we came back out. We can’t afford to fuck this up so get serious now the both of you or I will replace you.” Lucas and Emily looked at each other and rolled their eyes Alaric was always threatening them. They knew that he was starting to lose hope, but for every lead failed they refused to lose hope with him. They knew how important these leads were and were excited to hunt them down each time. “Are the others standing by around the area Lucas?“, Alaric asked. Lucas nodded in confirmation. As Alaric’s beta, he was in charge of making sure that Alaric’s orders were put into action. Lucas wasn’t one to let his Alpha down.

Alaric stopped in front of the club doors where two vampires were standing guard. Without turning his head to look at Emily, he mind linked her. “Has it been confirmed that our lead is in fact here?”

“Yes, Alpha. The wolves that are inside have confirmed and have been keeping an eye on her,” she stated all excitement gone and ready to get to work.

The guards immediately nodded their approval when Alaric looked at them and they pushed the doors open to walk in. The club was packed full of werewolves, vampires, and witches. It was one of the few places that all species were able to mingle together. It wasn’t the kind of place that Alaric or his pack associated themselves with however he liked his pack to stay isolated for a reason. They were known for their viciousness and ruthlessness. Wherever they went, bloodshed was sure to follow which was why their arrival had such an impact on surrounding wolves. They quickly moved away as if making a road for them.

Alaric glared around in disgust as he took in the scene around him. The club was huge with two levels, multicolored lights flashing, and extremely loud music playing. There were vampires feeding everywhere around the club and the dance floor was littered with barely clad dancers that were doing anything but dancing. Disgusting creatures, Rage growled as Alaric continued walking forward.

Emily and Lucas went ahead of Alaric and growled at those who were either stupid enough to remain in their way or were not werewolves so didn’t recognize who they should run from. They quickly cleared a path for them to get to the staircase on the other side of the club. The dance floor quickly separated for them to get through trying to avoid trouble. As they neared the staircase, another Alpha stepped out in front of them with a smirk on his face. He cracked his knuckles intimidatingly.

Alaric growled threateningly and stepped in front of Emily and Lucas before they could act. He motioned for them to step down. “I suggest you move yourself before I do so for you,” he growled out menacingly.

“So you’re the Great Alpha Alaric that everyone is so terrified of,” the Alpha stated snidely. “You don’t look so terrifying to me. How strong can you possibly be anyway? You haven’t even found your mate yet.,” he sneered as some of his pack members stepped forward to back him up. “How sadly pathetic.” His groups laughter was quickly cut off as Alaric grabbed the other Alpha by the neck and put him up against the wall.

Emily and Lucas quickly took out his fellow pack members with ease. Lucas smashed two of the mens heads togother before before throwing them against the wall. Then proceeded to punch one of the men in the face then threw him to the ground kicking him in the side and snarling at him to get back up. Emily kicked the other man in the head with her heal and kneed him in the groin causing him to fall down as well where she promptly put her spiky heel to his throat. She admired her nails as if nothing had just happened while the guy sputtered blood on the ground. Alaric’s pack had their reputation for a reason.

“Don’t even get blood on my new heels or you’ll be buying me two more to replace them,” Emily threatened in low menacing growl.

Lucas couldn’t help but laugh at the comment.

“She’s drop dead serious by the way,” Lucas told the guy she was holding down. “The last poor bastard who got blood on her new heels spent hundreds replacing them. Can you imagine spending hundreds on shoes? Females, am I right?,” Lucas asked throwing a smile at Emily who threw a warning look at him.

“I’d watch your next words very closely Alpha Will because they may just be your last,” Alaric spit out as he squeezed harder to cut off Will’s breathing. Will’s body shook as he tried to change into his wolf. Rage bared his teeth as Alaric called out the challenge. “How dare you challenge me! I will wipe you and your entire pack out if you do not bow down to me now! You insolent little fuck!” Alaric dropped Will’s body and crouched down beside him. “I will only offer this one warning because I am rather busy at the moment and do not wish to cause a bigger scene. I suggest you use what little brain power you have to accept my generous offer.”

Alaric stood up straight and took one step back waiting for Will’s decision. It didn’t take long for Will to take Alaric up on his offer. He quickly put his head down andbared his throat to show respect for Alaric. “Get out of my sight before I change my mind,” Alaric stated harshly. As soon as Will got up and scrabbled out of his sight, Alaric stood up brushing his outfit off and they continued on their way to the staircase.

Both Emily and Lucas knew better then to say anything to their Alpha while they ascended the staircase. They knew too well that Alaric didn’t want to find his mate. He had bigger plans for himself, and his pack and it didn’t involve a future with a mate. He hadn’t even bothered searching for her because he didn’t want a weakness for enemies to use against him.

As they reached the top of the staircase, Emily and Lucas once again took the forefront to clear the way to the bartender area. ”That’s her,” Emily mind linked Alaric as they stopped at the bar. Alaric looked at the witch that was bartending. She had black shoulder length hair with hazel eyes and wore a black dress that hugged her perfectly and had a v down to her midline in the front exposing her cleavage no doubt to try and get more tips. As she turned her attention to them, she approached them confidently trying to hide the unease that flashed in her eyes briefly.

“How may I help you Alpha Alaric?,” she asked with a hint of sarcasm and no smile as she worked on someone’s drink. She scooped some ice into the cup and flipped a tap on the bar letting the liquid pour into it. She turned it off before it hit the brim and grabbed a small vial with purple liquid in it. She tooked the dropper out of it and put two drops on top of the drink. The drops hissed as it hit the liquor causing a small plume of smoke to crawl off it. She put the drink on the bar top and slid it down to a waiting customer on her left.

“Now is that how you address a customer and an Alpha at that, Flora,” Alaric questioned as he drummed his fingers on the bar with an alluring smirk.

“I know why you’re here Alpha and I’m so sorry to have to tell you that you have wasted your precious time coming here. I have no answers to give you for who you seek,” she stated back without hesitation. She went rim rod straight as she confronted him. Her demeanor shifting to one of defiance. “However, if you would like a drink, I can help you with that. It looks like you could use one,” she added haughtily.

Alaric tsked as he leaned in towards her and grabbed her hand to pull her towards him. Flora attempted to escape his grip but he tightened his hold on her. Her eyes went wide as she cursed him. The customers at the bar quickly left the area not wanting to get in between them.

“We can either do this the hard way or the easy way. I’ll let you decide on that Flora since I’m that much of a gentleman. However, don’t for a second let that fool you into thinking that I will leave here without the information I came here for. I know you have the answers I seek because I’ve tortured quite a few of your kind to figure that out,” he told her in a harsh voice. “Give me the information that I came for and I will reward you for your time not only by sparing your life but with some monetary compensation.” Lucas brought forward a suitcase that had been statshed near the bar for this moment. He laid it on the bar in between them as Alaric released her hand.

Flora looked at the suitcase as Alaric unlocked the clasps and opened it turning it towards her. It easily had to contain more than what she made in a year working here. She looked at it for a long moment then at Alaric as if contemplating what to do. “Will you harm the witch if I tell you who you’re looking for? I won’t deny that I could use the money obviously you’ve done your homework on me.,” she told him nervously. “ I will not have anything to do with harming anymore witches though if that’s what you intend to do,” she stared him straight on as she told him her thoughts trying to stand her ground on what she thought was right.

“I hate to break it to you Flora,” he said cracking his knuckles as he spoke. “But unless you tell me who I’m looking for then I will torture and kill even more than one witch. I can promise you that. Now make your decision. I am not a very patient man as I’m sure you are well aware of.” Alaric glared at her with so much anger and hatred that Flora looked away from him fearfully.

“Ok,” Flora gave in as she put her hand on top of the money. Alaric tssked and stopped her. Putting his hand on top of hers, he put as much pressure as he could without breaking her hand.

“Information first then money,” he growled at her as he made her yelp in pain.

“OK! OK! Her name is Selene. She is young but she is the most powerful witch among us. You can find her with the Coven of the Crescent Moon. She keeps her coven isolated from everyone,” Flora hurriedly stated. Alaric let her hand go and she pulled it to her chest. The Coven of the Crescent Moon was very well hidden so well in fact that it was the only coven that he didn’t know where it was located. He had searched before for it and had come up empty handed each time. It was like searching for the lost of Atlantis.

“Where can I can find this coven,” Alaric asked impatiently. He was one step closer to getting everything he needed to exact his revenge. He could almost feel it.

“You won’t be able to,” she stated matter of factly. “Selene has her coven so well hidden you’ll never find it.”

“Oh, really now,” Alaric commented. Flora nodded her head. “We’ll just have to see about that now won’t we?” Lucas and Emily jumped over the bar and grabbed Flora shoving her face into the bar. Glass went flying and shattering around them from the sudden harsh movements. “Where can I find the coven Flora? You don’t want me to ask again,” he stated dangerously calm as he rolled up his sleeves readying himself to get his hands dirty. She squirmed trying to fight off Lucas and Emily before finally giving up.

“Ok,” she screamed as Emily shoved her down harder into the bar. “You’ll find them in between the northern mountains! There is a valley that runs next to the river! You’ll know when you’re there because they’ll see you but you won’t see them! I’m sure they’ll greet you as kindly as your reputation treats us,” she spit out at him through her bloody lip.

“Thank you for your time Flora,” Alaric slid the suitcase to her as he gestured for Lucas and Emily to let go of her. They jumped back over the bar to follow him as he turned around to leave.

“Wait before you go. I must warn you. I have seen the future for the path that you are on and if you don’t change your path of vengeance Alaric you will lose everything precious to you,” Flora warned Alaric as he walked away. He continued walking away letting her warning fall on deaf ears. “You and the Blood Moon Pack will be cursed to never cross over with the Moon Goddess upon death,” she continued her voice getting a little louder trying to make him understand. His steps continued on unfaltering but she had his attention now. “Your mate will lose her life,” she told him making his steps falter momentarily as she caught him off guard with this revelation. “Yes, you will find her Alaric after trying to avoid it for so long. You will find her on this path of destruction you’ve started on. Your family wouldn’t want so much pain for you or choose this path for you or their pack.” Flora finished in a saddened tone. Without warning Alaric turned back to her, he was over the bar before Flora could run. He grabbed her up by her arm in a painful grip making her yelp again in pain. He grabbed her with so much menace he knew there would be bruises if not a broken bone.

“Mind your mouth witch! You have no idea what my family would or wouldn’t want! I don’t have or need a fucking mate! Since you’re so good at seeing into the future why don’t you look into your own before you open your mouth one last time?,” Alaric growled in her face.

"Alpha we got the information we need. Let’s go find this Coven,” Lucas mind linked him trying to avoid wasting time as the crowd around them started to get antsy. He didn’t want to kill all of these innocent bystanders if not necessary. ”We may need her again later on.”

Alaric let her go and hopped back over the bar. “Let’s go. Oh and Flora your information better be accurate.,” Alaric said sending her one last threat. With that comment, they left.

As they walked out of the club, Lucas let out a sigh of relief. He would follow Alaric no matter the orders but he was glad that this trip hadn’t ended in bloodshed like so many before it had.

“Tell the others to head back Lucas. We have a new mission to get ready for. I will have my revenge no matter the cost,” Alaric growled.

As soon as they were back on pack territory, Alaric dismissed the others. He was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to go to sleep. Now that they finally had a name for the witch that would help him get his revenge, he was even more anxious than before. He raked his hand through his hair as he walked towards his bedroom. As he approached his bed he threw himself onto it and feel into a deep sleep.
