When Vampires Ruled The World

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

When the vampires took over the world, humans fled their homes, searching for hidden places to live. If caught, you become a palace servant for the vampire king and all his subjects that follow him. We are all left of the free human race nestled in an old bomb shelter used for government refugees back when the world was ordinary. Our whereabouts are kept secret so the entire human race will not be enslaved. I meet with the Vampire King to get my sister back after she is captured; he catches my scent, telling him I am his mate. After making a deal with him, trading my life for hers, little did I know what destiny held for me to become his mate for the rest of my life. Can I learn to love the creature that destroyed everything I knew and grew up hating? Can he love a human in the manner that I want to have a happy ending? The only way to find out is to be captured and taken to his castle to learn everything about these people who are nothing like we were taught when we were young.

Trying To Live

THIS STORY IS MY CREATION! ANY COPYING OR PLAGIARISM OF MY STORIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN ANY FORM OR FASHION. I OWN THE COPYWRITING OF THIS STORY!

Walking up to the enormous steel door that separates the living world we are in from our food supply, I place my hand on the palm scanner, which beeps to open. Clutching my pad and pen in my left arm, the door squeaks and then groans its disapproval as it slowly lifts for me to take inventory for the afternoon. When they finally slam up against the top of the wall, my feet shuffle into the nearly empty room. Tapping my pen on the pad, I let out a long sigh, looking down the long aisles of empty racks after a month of us refusing to go out into the world. The last time four of my people disappeared was when vampire scouts took them, so we lived on what we had left; now, we are facing either going out into what is left in the world, which is not much, or starving.

“Hey, boss,” John walks up behind me, making me jump, “this does not look good here. Have we gone through that much food in just a month?”

“We have one thousand people living here now; it does not take long to go through a room full of food. Has Ethan been tracking that food truck for me like I asked?” looking up into the dusty air floating around the place.

“Yes, I have, but if we want it, the strike team will have to hit it this afternoon at three when it crosses our territory. I have it mapped out for you in the war room if you want to see what we have come up with,” he says as he walks in with his laptop.

Nodding my head, we follow him out after I shut the door with my hand again. It groans as it descends the wall, then we hear the bang as it locks into the floor, descending into four huge holes as it claps down. Each rectangular section is about three feet wide and two feet deep, as they lock into place under the cement floor. Walking past all the small rooms everyone has spent so many hours building, trying to have a slight sense of privacy with their families, or just being a single person trying to live daily, makes my heart ache. I will give a few of the people who catch our eyes while we walk back to the room my small smile, which hopefully will provide them with a bit of encouragement that maybe all of this will be better one day. We built several levels in each wide-open area to give people the space and privacy to stay sane in this horrible room.

Ethan lays his hand on the next scanner, making the steel door squeak as it slowly opens back to the right. This allows us passage into the ten-by-twenty war room we built. It used to be the president’s office where they were secured during threats.

“Here is where they will be going through the isolation road, which is the best place to attack,” he points to a part of the curvy road while it winds over the mountain that our shelter is buried deep in.

“How many vehicles do we have left? The last few ambushes have taken a toll on what we used to have over a month ago,” placing my hands on the map.

“We only lost two in the last month; that gas truck we highjacked is still here with plenty of gas for the remaining vehicles available,” John points over through the wall where all of that is kept in a vast warehouse that pops out at the back of the mountain.

“Good. I thought there had been more that disappeared. Is there any way the team can take over some of the cars protecting this shipment to replenish what we lost?” I hope we can take a few from them so that the ones we lost can be replaced.

“We can try, Hannah, but what if we can’t get them?” Ethan looks over at me.

“We will shove them off the mountain for good. They have different ranks of vampires escorting this load to the castle. We need this food terribly; the king can send for another truck to get him what they need for all those poor enslaved people working in that place,” tears form in my eyes for the ones forced into that life.

“Don’t get upset about them again, boss; we can do nothing for them. They are serving the king; we have had too many people captured trying to get them out. That place is a fortress, so there is no way anyone can get in or out without getting caught,” Ethan lays his hand on my shoulder.

“I know, but my heart still hurts for her being in that awful place. There is no telling what they have her doing,” wiping a tear that breaks free of my eye, rolling down my cheek.

“Hey,” he wipes the tear off with his thumb, “Riley is strong, so I am sure she has tried to escape. You know she has, but I hope she was not severely punished when they caught her.”

My younger sister, Riley, got caught during the last mission to steal the gas truck parked in the warehouse. She is only two years younger than me, but just as strong, if not better. We tried infiltrating the palace to get her back, but she could not be found. The scouts we sent in there never returned. After that, we gave up hope of getting into the palace and agreed to let it go. They have booby traps and detectors that alert their security team if an unchipped human enters the premises. All enslaved people have chips in their arms, so it does not signal the security room when they walk past any hidden sensors. If a human passes one where it does not read the chip, the site goes into lockdown with no escape until the human is found, chipped, forced into life there, and everyone else who has been caught.

“Hannah,” my mind returns to what it needs to be looking at, “my opinion is that our team will strike here first at the back, taking those cars out. We will take the positions with our cars just like theirs. After that, Mark can climb up the back of the truck, then head to the cab and take out the driver. Then the team sitting here,” pointing to a hidden dirt road we use at times, “will take out the front vehicles leading the truck back here under a safe caravan.”

Scanning the plans one last time, I nod, looking up at the two men who are my second in command. “I am leading this raid this time. John, I need you ready with our secret weapon in case I need you to get me out of there.”

He shakes his head, swishing that shoulder-length sandy blonde hair back and forth quickly. “No, Hannah, we can’t afford you to be captured. If they get their hands on our leader, we are screwed.”

“Not if you are ready with what I told you to have on standby. Does it have enough fuel, or do we need to mix more up?” giving him a look where he knew I would not back down on this.

He sighs. “I will get it fueled back up; the gauge was on a quarter the last time we used it. I don’t like to use it being that low.”

“Good, now let’s go get a few protein bars to keep our strength up, so this will go off without a hitch,” spinning on my heels.

“What’s the attire this time?” Ethan calls out behind me.

“We are going into stealth mode. Make sure the team is geared up, has food in their system, and is ready by two,” pointing my pen in their direction.

They both roll their eyes and turn around to look at the map more. I make my way back to my quarters for a short rest, ensuring my head is clear so nothing will happen when this goes into motion. This truck will feed us for another month, if not more, so we need this badly. Walking into the suite everyone here made for me, I lay down on my bed that we got out of our house before the vampires destroyed it. I felt so bad that they gave my sister and me this big room, but everyone here insisted we have it since they all looked up to me as their leader.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
