By the time Meldei accepts her friend’s irreversible heartbreak, her own feelings and reputation are already on the brink of ruin. ——•—— When Phum Meldei acts out in an attempt to fix her friend’s relationship with the Japanese transfer, Fujiwara Youhei, the last thing she expects is for a scandal to sweep her head underwater. Fueled by public humiliation, her doubts on appearances and inner values begin to clash against the guilt of an attraction taking root. Youhei is a stranger, but one whose drifting melodies make him even harder to forget. Will Meldei abandon all she’s taught about values, or sacrifice the possibility of what she’s seeking all along—a reality of her own direction—knowing that both share the same cost of inevitable heartbreak?

C.: Ich habe so oft herzhaft gelacht. Was für eine tolle Geschichte. So schön geschrieben. So schön, flüssig lesbar. Ich lieb‘s. Mir tun die Herren in der Geschichte fast leid, die Frauen sind reine Naturgewalten. Lustig, verschmitzt, offen, direkt. So schön. Danke für diese Geschichte und das wir sie l...

Tatouie: There wasn’t anything I didn’t like except maybe more of a finality to the European Charter that was up to no good. I feel like they wouldn’t have left so quietly. Otherwise loved the story, great rhythm can’t wait to read more books.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...

Hi Mayer Cross,
I just finished reading your story Whistle in the Woods and I loved its emotional nuance and lyrical tone, your writing has such vivid atmosphere that I could immediately picture it as a graphic narrative.
One scene that stayed with me is the moment Meldei hears the sweet melody drifting through the forest, that intro chapter sets such a haunting, whimsical mood. I can already envision panels filled with dappled light, soft pastels, and Youhei’s melodies swirling through the foliage , .
Another impactful moment is in the chapter where Meldei’s inner values begin to clash with her growing attraction to Youhei, the guilt, the tension, the public humiliation all swirling inside her. That emotional upheaval during the scandalized school setting feels ideal for expressive panel sequencing, close-ups on her eyes, fragmented frames capturing her internal conflict, then widening to reveal the public glare , .
Your exploration of identity, reputation, and cultural expectations, as Meldei negotiates heartbreak and attraction, offers rich ground for visual storytelling. I imagine subtle shifts in tone and color palettes reflecting her journey: cooler tones as the scandal unfolds, warmer hues as moments of genuine connection break through.
I’m a commissioned artist, and I’d love to bring those tender moments, emotional crescendos, and atmospheric storytelling to life in comic or manga form. No pressure at all, I just think your story would look beautiful and resonant visually.
