Chapter 1
Emma finished packing her bags. She and her sisters were going to live with their mom. They have loved living with their father and stepmom and brothers but their mom asked if they could come live with her and help her run her bookstore and coffee shop. Emma was going to help with the bookstore while her sisters, Kenzie and Faith, would run the coffee shop. Her mom said she had a surprise as well but it was news to be shared in person.
“Hey sweetheart,” her dad Rick said.
“Hey Daddy,” Emma said.
“I’m going to miss you girls so much,” Rick said.
“Going to miss you guys too,” Emma said.
“Eric and Danny will come visit next month,” Rick said.
“Okay,” Emma said.
“Eric will take you girls to the airport,” Rick said.
“I love you Daddy,” Emma said. She went into his arms. He kissed her head and held her close.
“I love you sweetheart,” Rick said.
“We love you Daddy,” Kenzie said.
“Yeah,” Faith said. They joined the hug. He held them close and kissed their heads.
“My girls, I love you all so much,” Rick said. They went downstairs. Their stepmom Amy was waiting.
“I’ll miss you girls so much,” Amy said.
“We will miss you too Mom,” Emma said.
“Take care of him,” Kenzie said.
“And our brothers,” Faith said.
“I will,” Amy said. They hugged her. They hugged Danny their eldest brother. They took the bags out. Eric was waiting in the car. The girls got in after hugging them all once more before heading out.
“I’m going to miss having you guys around all the time,” Eric said.
“We will see you and Danny next month when you come visit,” Emma said.
“I know, let us know what the surprise is when you get there,” Eric said.
“We will, bro,” Kenzie said.
“What if she got married again?” Faith asked.
“She would have said something about dating again,” Emma said.
“Yeah, she wouldn’t keep that from us,” Kenzie said.
“Unless she things we wouldn’t approve or she wanted to keep getting alimony from Dad,” Eric said.
“No Dad would get a notice that she got remarried,” Faith said.
“Unless he knew and she asked him not to tell us,” Kenzie said.
“Why keep it a secret then,” Emma said.
“Does she think we wouldn’t be happy for her?” Faith asked.
“Just as long as she’s happy we would be happy for her,” Emma said.
“You let me know if that’s the case okay,” Eric said.
“Or you can just ask Dad,” Emma said.
“He wouldn’t tell me, he would think that’s news that Mom should share,” Eric said. They pulled up to the airport and he helped them get their bags out and they hugged him and they went to the terminal and got called to board and got on the plane.
“Well here we go,” Emma said.
“A new adventure,” Kenzie said.
“And to find out what Mom is keeping from us,” Faith said. The plane took off and they headed to Wyoming where their mother lived. After the plane landed, they got off and got their bags. They saw a guy standing there with their names on a sign.
“Hi there, I’m Emma, this is Kenzie and Faith,” Emma said.
“Hi I’m Jack, I’m here to take you to your mother’s house,” he said. He helped them with the bags and they walked out to a truck. He put the bags in the back under the cover as the girls got in and he got in and headed to the house.
“So you know our mother?” Emma asked.
“Yes I do,” Jack said.
“How exactly?” Kenzie asked.
“She’s a friend,” Jack said.
“So you are just helping out a friend,” Faith said.
“Yes,” Jack said. He drove for awhile and pulled down a long driveway and pulled up to a house.
“This is her house?” Kenzie asked.
“Yep she lives here,” Jack said.
“You mean she doesn’t own it,” Emma said.
“Let’s get you ladies inside, she’s waiting to see you,” Jack said. He got out and got their bags and they walked in.
“My girls!” their mother Carla said. She came in from the living room and hugged all of them.
“Hey Mom,” Emma, Kenzie, and Faith said.
“Thank you for going to get them, Jack,” Carla said.
“Not a problem,” Jack said.
“Okay Mom what’s going on?” Emma asked.
“Do you just live here or did you buy this house?” Kenzie asked.
“You renting it?” Faith asked.
“This house is owned by me and my brother Jack here, hi there, I’m Mitch,” a guy said from behind them.
“I might as well tell you that Mitch is my husband, Jack is my brother-in-law, and Mitch has a son named Aaron who is in town right now getting stuff for the ranch here,” Carla said.
“Okay so you got married?” Emma asked.
“You didn’t tell us that?” Kenzie said.
“Or invite us to the wedding?” Faith said.
“Well it wasn’t a big ceremony and I wanted to surprise you,” Carla said.
“Well we certainly are surprised,” Emma said.
“How about we get you three settled into your rooms here and then we can meet back down here and get to know each other,” Mitch said. They went upstairs and checked out their rooms. Emma walked into hers.
“This is nice and good view outside,” Emma said.
“I knew you would like it, Em,” Carla said. She went on with Kenzie and Faith. Mitch sat her bags down.
“Should we call you Dad now?” Emma asked.
“You can call me whatever you want, Emma, it’s up to you,” Mitch said. He smiled and left the room. She sat down on the bed in deep thought.
