The Beginning of the End
I ran home from school eager to see what grandpa had put together for my birthday. He always put together big surprises for my birthday like last year where he got an entire circus to come to our house and the year where he made out house look like an actual castle. However, this year he gave me the biggest surprise of all. I came home, excited for my birthday surprise, but then I saw my mum crying into my aunt Lilo's arms. Both of them were in hysterics but that wasn't even the worst thing. I realised that my house was burnt down. Half of it was missing and there were firemen standing and checking the the stove. I rushed inside and went to my dad who was busy talking to the firemen and nodding. He saw me and steered me into the what-was-once-a-living-room and sat me down on the armchair. "Ivy, there's something you need to know..." he said but I cut him off "I know there was a fire, it's hardly a secret is it." gesturing around the house. He shook his head "No, there wasn't a fire, honey, there was a...a bomb." He let the sentence hang for a moment. "A bomb, surely not. I mean who would want to bomb our house?" Dad looked at the ground then at me. "Umm honey, there is something else you have to know." I was still in shock from him telling me that there was a bomb but I nodded. "Your...your grandpa, he....he..." I cut him off because I didn't want to hear what he said next. I could guess, but it was too horrible to even think about. "Honey..." "No, no it can't, HE can't..." I practically screamed at him. "I'm so, so sorry, your grandpa died today." He said.
