Summary

This is probably one of my favorite poems I have ever written. I remember writing it in the middle of the night before the project was due and even though I already had one I worked on for weeks ready to submit I felt that I would love one that just came to me even more so I decided to turn this one in last minute. I remember preforming it in front of the class and my classmates loving it because of how relatable it is.

Names

I was in a conversation.

Talking with a person, when they got distracted and I went to call out to them.

I realized,

I don't remember their name.

So I snapped my fingers and the conversation continued.

But they could tell something was off.

When I got home I continued to think about it.

What is their name?

I went over every conversation I could remember us having.

Which I admit, there weren't many despite knowing them for so long.

I realized I didn't care for their presence unless they were mentioning something that interested me.

To me, they were Irrelevant.

That's when I got thinking.

Am I irrelevant to others unless I say something they're interested in?

Do I not exist in the minds of others unless I'm seeking their attention?.

Then it hit me,

Do they remember my name.?

Names

the thing people use to identify others

Names

If someone remembers your name you left some sort of impact on them

Names

When you remember someone's name whatever happened in the interaction interested you

Names

There was a rumor going around with a certain Name.

He said-

No she said-

They said-

No he heard-?

The name, the name in the rumor was the same name of the person I forgot.

The other Names, they were Names of people once Irrelevant to me but suddenly I had an interest.

Did you hear that-

I once saw-

She told me-

Interest.

The interest in the information unknown is what drives one to find out, or remember.

The interest in something once irrelevant can come as quickly as some sort of flu.

The interest can be like a bee.

It comes near, it may hurt you, you may hurt it, but it dies all the same.

The interest in the Names is what started the connection.
