Soldier
Gone is this soldier
To a place where heroes dwell
Fields of poppies
A chorus of harps and bells
Then God came and saw him
He smiled and said, “My son.”
“Rest at ease now,
All your pain and troubles are gone.
You have been brave
And lived your life well.
You did all you could,
For any who needed help.
You are a good man,
And it’s time to come home.
You’ve raised your family
And your children are grown.
I’ll take you in my arms
And lay you on a bed of cloud.
Your life has been long.
You should be proud.
You are a true soldier,
A perfect picture to paint.
I’ll raise you up high
And count you, a saint.”
