Beatrice was an intelligent, beautiful, trusting, warmhearted girl who at this moment felt broken. Her long bright green hair that typically fell in lush ringlets down her back was now in dismay. Black streaks ran down her face from her mascara staining her pale doll-like face. Purple blotches framed her right eye mixed with smudged eyeliner fear highlighted her emerald green eyes. Bang Bang! “Bea babe open up!” Alex shouted as he beat on the door. If it had been any other day if he hadn't have touched her she would have opened that door taking the scolding about how it was her fault if the neighbors complained that she made him that loud but not tonight she wasn't going to tolerate it any longer. Her head snapped towards the door in a panic. Her hand shot up touching her cheek where it still stung from his fist her dark red lipstick smeared on the top of her lip where his had departed.
“Go away, I`m leaving and I never want to see you again!” She screamed. There was silence he had left or so she thought. She stormed off to her bedroom calling the cruise agency. She was to depart the next morning to flee from Miami and that cursed Alex. She quickly packed her bags looking at the pictures of Alex and her. She fell to the ground weeping holding the picture in her lap. His strong muscular arms wrapped around her. His bright smile full of deception. They looked so happy together. It was all lies! She thought before she threw it into the suitcase. He deceived her after she gave him all of her love and faith. She slipped on her powder blue nightie made of silk. She slowly brushed out and braided her hair thoughts racing through her mind. She laid down and drifting off to sleep. The light of the sun shined into her eyes. She rose from her slumber looking through her closet of clothes left behind. She pulled out a short black dress with thin straps that lay across her chest in a v-form. Sliding it on over her head as it formed to her curves, her breast straining against the straps, The skirt flaring out from her hips. She pulled her wedges made of cork out of the bottom of her closet, they cradled her feet as she buckled the clasp that latched them to her. She looked into the mirror at her reflection pulling down her braids glossing her lips and rearranging her bangs, covering the bruise on her right eye and rushed out of her apartment. Downstairs her best friend Katlyn waited for her to take her to the ship. Her blonde haired, fared skinned friend greeted her with a big smile and open arms accepting the warmth and safety of her friends embrace exhaling deeply. Katyln was silent as Beatrice put her things in the trunk. They got into the car together and took off. “I`m so happy you're getting away bea. I`m especially happy you're not with Alex anymore.” Katlyn said. Beatrice stiffened at the sound of his name, she glared at Katlyn for even speaking it. Katyln drove in silence for the rest of the trip. They arrived early to the ship she hugged Katlyn tight. “I love you, call me as often as you can,” Katyln said hugging back. Beatrice nodded. “I love you too,” she replied getting out and retrieving her suitcase from the trunk.
Beatrice boarded the ship taking a deep breath she was to be gone for a week on a cruise to the Bahamas. She went to her cabin to unpack. She saw the picture and placed it on the table beside the bed face down. Grabbing the sunscreen she headed off to get a little sun before all the passengers arrived. She stood on deck unfolding the lounge chair, around the corner watching her with intense emotions Alex followed her from her apartment on to the ship. He stood seething with animosity there were too many people around to approach her. She sat enjoying the sun she wore a bikini for the first time in 3 years she shifted slightly uncomfortably in the bathing suit tying a scarf around her waist to cover up her legs a little. She was on the deck for a short while being around all the couples made her feel more depressed everywhere she looked there was someone for everyone, but her. Going back to the cabin emotionally drained she threw herself on to the bed she picked up the picture of her and Alex staring at it for a bit longer. A burst of anger flew out of her she grabbed the picture firmly stormed out of the cabin and to the railing about to throw the picture overboard when a firm hand grasped her arm.
“miss me, love?” the cruel voice hit her like a ton of bricks her eyes reluctantly met Alex who at this moment was so overcome with rage he pushed her back into the wall making her drop the picture frame to the ground shattering it. “what are you doing here Alex i... I told you we are over.” her voice quivered her eyes downcast at the broken picture for a second until his fist hit the wall by her head. Her eyes darted up panicked and scared. His eyes were like daggers as he glared at her as if he felt no pain “Bea you know I love you how could I have left you here alone. did you like showing off your body earlier were you wanting attention I can give you attention.” he sneered as he ran his hand up her leg Beatrice pushed him grimacing as he slammed her back against the wall biting into her neck drawing blood she cried out as his hand went over her mouth.
Suddenly he was off her and on the ground she fell from shock the last thing she saw a tall long haired blond man. She woke up in an unfamiliar room covered in an oversized tee shirt, her hair in tangles and her shoes at the side of the bed. Her neck hurt from the bite Alex left she swung her legs over the side of the bed her toes brushing the cold hardwood floors before she pushed off connecting the whole of her foot to the floor wonder about the room walking to a mirror to clear the damages her whole body ached her neck was bandaged as she looked at herself in the mirror all she saw was a broken girl she was on the verge of tears "what's the point of wearing make up its just going to get everywhere." she thought to herself. There was a knocking at the door she turned towards it scared it was Alex. The knob turned, the door opened and a tall long haired blond man walked in. “oh your awake why didn’t you call out when I knocked?” he asked he was about 6′ 2 quite muscular with blue eyes he was wearing a white button-up shirt with stonewashed jeans.
Her eyes darted all over the room trying to take it all in so nervous this was the man who saved her. she bites down on her lip trying not to make eye contact. “I didn’t know who it was. still, don’t.” she retorts shaking with relief but still on edge, she didn’t know this man so he saved her that doesn’t make him a good person it’s just a guy at the right place at the right time doing the right thing.
He stood in the doorway holding a brown paper bag in his hand, he wet his lips “I`m Josh.” he stated taking a step inside the room. she unintentionally took a step back he stopped and fidgeted a bit “I brought donuts.” he added anxiously as to break the ice it didn't work.
“what happened to Alex?” beatrice blurted out scratching at the bite on her neck wincing. “don’t touch it you’ll agitate it. and Alex that’s the guy from last night right? he got taken into ship custody he will be released to the police when we doc I’ll take you to the station so you can make a state....” she cut him off yelling
“No! I just want to put this all behind me.” He stared at her taken aback no one had ever yelled at him before.
“Can I come in and change your bandages?” he asked cautiously. Beatrice nodded going back to the bed sitting down. Josh walked over pulling a chair from the corner of the room placing it in front of her sitting the bag of donuts down next to her and going to the bathroom getting the first aid kit. She pushed the tangled mess of hair to the left side of her neck exposing the bandage to this strange man. He came back first aid in hand sitting it on the nightstand he reached out touching the skin around the bite gently as he pulled the bandage off. It was electricity hit her it was warm and secretly she wanted him to touch her more. She pushed those thoughts away but she wasn’t the only one feeling it. They exchanged a heated gaze for a moment quickly averting their eyes he looked at the first aid box as she looked at her hand. “you’ve had this feeling before you know it turned sour don’t be blind again.” she thought to herself she stole a glance at him from beneath her eyelashes. He turned back to her rubbing the disinfectant on the wounds her breath caught in her throat. He finished changing her bandage sitting in awkward silence. He tried once again to get her to eat.
“The donuts I brought them for you please eat," he stated sweetly. she glanced to the bag beside her pulling a plain glazed donut out taking a bite. She placed it on top of the bag realizing she knew his name it's only polite to give him hers.
"I'm Beatrice and I'm really wanting to get back to my cabin," she stated it firmly getting up pulling the shirt off to expose the pink bikini underneath. Josh saw girls in bikinis all the time but this time was different it felt like his body was on fire his hand itched to just reach out and touch the beautiful skin of hers his eyes had a look of deep hunger in them. quickly realizing that he looked like a fox about to eat a frightened bunny. He cleared his throat averting his gaze a hint of red touched his cheeks.
"I'll walk you there." he wanted any excuse to be with her just a bit longer.
