Chapter 1 - Humble Beginnings

THE GOBI DESSERT, MONGOLIA - 1926.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Only a few short years ago before the gathering of our people, there were nomads that roamed these desert lands. They were taught how to read, how to hunt, how to live by their ancestors before them. They used this advantage in knowledge to map out and search for better lands for their tribe to live in..”
AKARI
Wait, why were they called nomads if they had a true tribe?
CHOU
Shh. Patience Akari.
“In search of new lands these nomads came across a mystical light. An orb shaped wisp that was white in color. The nomads did not know what this foreign object was but in hopes of it helping them on their journey they touched it…or rather the leader of the nomads did. He was a fool. He did not think with his mind but instead with his heart. Thats was never the way of the tribe but it worked for him. As he touched it, the wisp started to enter his body and visibly the orb become one with him. His veins pumped with a bright energy and his eyes flashed of godly power.”
AKARI
Woah..
“With this new found power in the wanderer‘s body, he decided that instead of finding a new place to thrive, why not just build one. His members believed that he was mad. A fool. There was nothing in the desert worth staying for but the man disagreed. Unlike the many decades it would take to build a thriving society, the man convinced his tribe to go with his plan. In solitude the tribes people began building an empire worth living in for centuries. A beautiful empire. White in color, lush waters and plants that would stretch miles long.”
AKARI
But how?
CHOU
Well my young one-
“He used what was given to him. Whatever force allowed him to have such power, he used the wisps energy to fast forward natures growth. Marveled at the man’s power, the people praised him as their god. They worshipped him from then on. Although feeling accomplished in the tribe’s goal, the man did not know how to use the power again. He could not control it. Neither was he able to ever conjure it up again. Keeping it a secret he held his head up high and gave his people something to believe in and a thriving society for years to come. Believing in his power and usefulness, one of the woman from the Nomads slept with him and became his wife. They had dreams of having a family and not long after, they had their first child. A son. The child was to be next in line of ensuring the survival of their tribe. Like his father-a King.
One night though something horrible happened. A killer came and stole the king‘s son from the palace.”
AKARI
No!..
“In anger the King made a man hunt to find his son. The King’s trackers located the tracks of who took his son. Although it wasn’t a who..but rather what. A Mytharial, a viscous saber tooth like creature was responsible for the kidnapping. In anger the king wanted revenge. The king tracked these creatures down but upon finding them, the creatures seemed to be…tame. They were not viscous or killers. One of the king’s animal whisperers talked to the Mytharials and told the king that the creatures banished the rouge tiger responsible for his son’s death, after they found out what it had done. They stated that he did it out of anger and hatred for the humans as they took over the Mytharials land. Unfortunately, the rough tiger killed the king’s son, eating him alive. The king was saddened by the news. He stared at the creatures and didn’t know what to do. The king’s war chief wanted revenge. He wanted to exterminate all Mytharials. The King did not want this. He did not want to start an onslaught of any kind. He only wanted peace and so he did. He took the tiger like creatures in and gave them a home. In return the creatures protected the humans at all cost. Tall as bears yet as fast as cheetahs, the two species coexisted inside the safety of the Kings domain. With time another child was born..but before the child could even reach the age of 1, the mother passed away of an illness that could not be healed by any type of erb and the king’s magic was nonexistent by this time. With all good faith the king raised his daughter for 7 years..”
CHOU
That King is me.
And that daughter…is you..
AKARI
I…I was going to have a brother?
CHOU
Yes.
CHOU
Like you and your mother he would’ve had sparkling emerald eyes.
AKARI
…Have there been any other people out there besides us?
CHOU
Yes. Those who came to our lands and taught us their language. It is something I’ve passed between all of us.
AKARI
Will they ever come back?
CHOU
I…
CHOU
..Do not know.
AKARI
If they ever do can I meet them?
CHOU
You must stay inside of our boarders. Where it’s safe. You cannot exit until you get older. It is a very dangerous world out there. I do not want to lose you too.
As he finishes saying that, a woman in an all white tribal attire comes to him with food on a tray.
AMATALLAH
Dinner my lord.
CHOU
Please don’t call me that. You know my name.
AMATALLAH
Sorry.
The braided hair woman stands with the tray in hand as she watches Chou talk to his daughter in front of the inside pool.
CHOU
Go play with the other children I’ll be out soon.
AKARI
Okay. Love you papa.
She opens her arms and gives her father an embracive hug. He holds it for a while, after letting go she runs out of the room to go play with other children. Chou sighs heavily as he stands to his full height and looks out of the window into the lush jungles that were once just desert. The servant stands in silence for a while before speaking.
AMATALLAH
Whats wrong Chou?
CHOU
I am scared for her life Amatallah.
AMATALLAH
Why? She has everything she needs here.
CHOU
Exactly. Here. She will want to venture out as she gets older. I cannot stop her from doing such a thing but…I don’t think she yet grasps the danger of her leaving the palace as the king’s daughter.
AMATALLAH
She will understand eventually-
CHOU
And how long until she’ll be found by the very creature that took my son away from me..
He looks over his shoulder and stares her down.
AMATALLAH
Nothing will happen to her. We won’t allow it.
He turns back around to the window.
CHOU
And yet…I feel like everyday I have less and less time than I would want.
The servant doesn’t say anything but just looks over at the pile of food he hasn’t eaten.
AMATALLAH
Please eat Chou. Please. We need our King.
CHOU
What’s a king without power..
Amatallah walks over to his table and places the tray on it.
She speaks as she leaves.
AMATALLAH
You have a daughter. There is a slight chance that she’ll even end up having the power that you had. Unlike you..she’ll have to use her words and promises to hold an empire together. You don’t need power to rule. You just need unity…and if your daughter isn’t going to learn that because you won’t teach it to her..then she’ll fail.
Saying nothing more, the servant walks out of the room. Leaving the King to himself as the doors close.
