Chapter 1 : The Theft
I used to live in Pakistan with my family, but when I was only nine, we moved to Canada. But, after fourteen years I decided to visit Pakistan again. It was the first time that I was going to travel to another country alone so I was excited. However, I did not know how bad this journey would turn out. I got seated in the plane and tried to remember what was it like in Pakistan and slept in the process.
When I was on the airport someone from behind pushed me so hard that I fell. When I got back into my senses, I saw a person running with my wallet in is hand, I got up but that person was nowhere to be found. I was a little panicked at that time, but I did not know what to do. Fortunately, because of my strange habit of putting some money outside my wallet, I had enough money to stay in a hotel for one night and buy some food for myself. I decided to call my parents the next day and and ask for help. But, the next day I forgot and went to buy food from the store.
When I was there a person, wearing a mask, sunglasses and a cap which completely covered his face, came to me and asked, ‘Can I borrow your phone, I have to make a call at home’, I gave him my phone, he made the call and returned the phone and then he grabbed my wrist weirdly and said, ‘Oh! Thanks man, you saved me’, and when he was leaving he again said, ‘Thank you’, and left. When I got outside the store, I noticed that my left hand felt lighter, and I was shocked to see that my watch was missing, I instantly figured that it was stolen by that person. Who took my phone to make a call, but even I knew that now it was to late to do anything. Than I went home and ate the food that I bought and left the hotel. I was sitting in a park when I instantly remembered that I should call my parents and ask for help. I reached pocket to take my phone out, but it was not there. I panicked and started checking my other pockets, I did it again and again, knowing full well that I had lost my phone, that I and only I was responsible for this as I had left my phone in the hotel room.
I got back to the hotel only to find out that someone else was occupying my room and that they did not find anything in the room. Now I knew that I was in trouble as I now did not have any way to contact my parents. It was evening, I was sitting in the park thinking where will I sleep at night, when a person came and sat next to me, and before I knew it we started talking and I told him what happened to me, and said, ‘Well, how much can a person go through. How about this... you should come and stay with us for the time being... their is also another friend of mine who is living with me, you can join us’, it was weird, but I did not had any other choice but to accept the offer he made. And from that point my thoughts about the country changed. I thought that now I was going to see this country’s other and brighter side.
