Happy Anniversary
As Krista opened the door to her house, a fantastic smell coming from the kitchen flooded her senses. 'There is no way that Chase made it smell this good. That boy burns ramen noodles,' Krista thought about her husband of five years. She and Chase dated in middle and high school and then things went awry and they didn't speak for ten years. Thankfully, the powers that be decided they needed to reconnect. Unfortunately, it took Chase's mom having a major medical issue for that to happen. Despite the reason, Krista couldn't be happier to be married to her bona fide rock star husband. The last five years had been amazing, but she still couldn't give Chase any credit in the kitchen, no matter how many times her mother or herself have tried to teach him.
"Hi, Beautiful," Chase says his traditional greeting, that always affects Krista in the best way, as he looks up to see his wife coming into the kitchen. "Happy Anniversary!"
Krista gives her husband a kiss. "Happy Anniversary to you too. What is that delicious smell?"
Chase laughed and replied, "I ordered from Don Cuco's for dinner tonight. I wanted something special, didn't want you to have to cook, but also wanted to be alone with you and not go out."
"Aha, so there's the culprit." Krista smiled as she thought about the local Mexican restaurant that Chase had ordered from. "Thank you for ordering. Mexican sounds like 'just what the doctor ordered' for tonight. Speaking of doctors and orders, were you able to pick up my birth control refill?"
"I would have been able to, but I chose not to. I want to start a family with you. You know I have always wanted to have kids. Well ok maybe not always, but only because I was scared I would end up like my father, but between you and mom, you two have convinced me I am nothing like him." Chase answered.
"Are you sure we are ready for that? I don't know if our schedules are conducive for parenting." Krista asked worriedly. She is head of the Physical Therapy department and he is a musician.
"We will make it work. I want a family. I see the jealousy daggers you have been sending your sisters and cousins as they have been getting pregnant and having kids. I don't just want to be everyone's favorite uncle." He replied with a wink on the last comment.
"I'm game if you're sure. I love you, Chase. Let's do this."
The two enjoyed their dinner and continued talking of the future. It didn't really surprise Krista that Chase had brought up having a family. He grew up as an only child. He loved hanging out at her house with her three sisters and five male cousins when they were dating as kids. He did always want a family and she did too.
