Chapter 1
“Eleanor!” Ava shouted from across the office, the sound clicking, heels closing. I looked up from my computer to meet her eyes.
“What’s up?” I asked with a slight smile. She slammed a stack of papers down onto my desk.
“All these session pictures need to be edited and sent out. Today!” she demanded. I looked at the stack of papers and sighed. As if I already didn’t have enough to do today.
“Sure thing, I’ll jump right on that! After I do that session you scheduled me for today” I said sarcastically. Lily giggled quietly at her desk in front of me. Ava glared over at her.
“Something funny?” Ava hissed.
“Nope,” Lily replied, popping out the P. She kept her gaze on her computer. Ava scowled at her then brought her attention back to me.
“That’s today?” Ava asked, looking at me confused.
“Mhm,” I said, pulling up my schedule for the week and showing her.
“Shit. The CEO shoot” She mumbled. She clicked her tongue looking at me. “Forget about these until tomorrow then,” She said, pushing them aside with a smile. “What time did I schedule that for?”
“10,” I said looking at my watch. In half an hour.
“Great!” She hissed through her smile. She leaned down to my ear. “Do not fuck this up for us” She whispered. She pulled away, staring at me.
“Tsk” I roll my eyes, turning away from her and back towards my computer. She turned on her heels and walked back to her office. “Fuck sake” I whispered.
“Who’s the CEO?” Lily asked, looking over at me. I shrugged my shoulders and then looked at the session info.
“Uh, Oliver Hills? No idea” I said, turning towards her. Her eyes were about to bulge out of their sockets. “What?” I asked.
“Oliver Hills?! Like Hills Corp Oliver Hills?!” She squeaked.
“I don’t know,” I said, shaking my head confused. She flung up from her chair, running around to my side of the desk. “Move over,” She said, nudging my chair with her hip, pushing me away from my computer. She started typing rapidly on the keyboard. “This is Oliver Hills. He is the new CEO of Hills Corporation. They run like a shit ton of construction companies. They build hotels, office buildings, and crazy shit like that” She said pointing to pictures. I leaned in to look at the pictures. “And he’s so fucking hot” Lily whispered, also looking at the pictures. A tall, dark- blonde-haired guy walking across the street in an all-black suit. All I could see was his side profile.
“Um, that’s him?” I giggled. Her eyes shot at me.
“Yes! Why are you giggling?!” She yelled.
“How can you tell if he’s hot from that picture?” I laughed pointing at the picture. “It’s grainy as fuck”
“Jesus” She moaned turning back towards the computer, typing and clicking away again. “How about… this?” She said, pulling up a new picture. I turned to look and was caught off guard. Dark blonde hair, shaved on the sides, slightly longer on top, light green eyes, a chiseled face with plump lips and a little bit of stubble, and neck and arm veins for fucking days. I stared at the photo for a minute or two. She wasn’t wrong. I thought to myself.
“See what I mean?” Lily asked with a chuckle.
“Oh fuck, that’s who I’m photographing today?” I said pointing to the photo.
“Yep,” She said, popping the P. She looked at her watch. “Which you should probably leave now for if you’re walking” I looked at my watch. Fuck! I have 25 minutes to get there! How long were we looking at the fucking picture?!
“Fuck!” I shouted as I shot up from my chair. “How long does it take to walk there?!”
“Uh, 30 minutes,” She answered.
“Fuck!” I groaned about getting my equipment together. I looked through the office’s front windows that face the street. It’s of course raining. Typical. “What about driving?”
“0-15 minutes depending on traffic”
“Taxi it is” I huffed, pulling my bag over my shoulder.
“Ellie, you know how bad New York City traffic is. Especially when it’s raining” Lily pointed out.
“Well, I don’t have a car Lil, and I’m not trying to get fired for being late to a fucking CEO shoot!” I said hustling towards the door.
“Alright, well good luck! Text me!” She winked. I glared at her as I pushed the office door open and walked into the street. I ran over trying to flag down a taxi.
“Fuck, come on” I grunted, waving my hand. Finally, after what felt like 10 minutes, a taxi stopped. I quickly jumped in.
“Where to?” The driver asked.
“Hills Corp building please!” I said out of breath. He nodded and began to drive, I looked around and we were surrounded by traffic. “Fuck” I whispered.
About 15 minutes later, we arrived at the building. I jumped out, accidentally tossing the money at the driver. “Shit! Sorry!” I said slamming the door and scurrying away. The rain was coming down hard, soaking my clothes. As I trotted up to the building, I looked up to see how tall it was. “How many floors are in this place?” I said looking up.
“85” Someone answered that was walking by. 85?! Who needs 85 floors?! I thought to myself. I quickly walked into the building, everything was modern whites, blacks, and gold, sparkling crystal glass lights hung everywhere. I walked up to one of the security gates.
“Hi, My name is Eleanor Young, I’m here for a photo shoot with Mr. Hills” I smiled handing over the appointment info and my ID. The security guard looks at my ID and then at me. He nods his head and scans a badge letting me in.
“Floor 85,” He said, nodding towards the elevator.
“The top floor?” I smiled, nervously. He handed me back my ID and nodded. I walked through the gate still smiling nervously. “Thank you”
I fast-walked towards the elevator, the guard nodded to me and smashed my fingers against the button. I checked my watch. 6 minutes late. I took a deep breath and impatiently waited for the elevator. Finally the doors open and I walk in without looking. I hit the number 85 on the number pad and looked around. I had the elevator to myself. I sighed in relief until I saw my reflection in the elevator mirror. My black flats were soaked, and my light blue skinny jeans were soaked. My black blouse that was tucked into my jeans in the front, was also soaked. The ponytail I had my dark crimson hair pulled back in was damp and hanging loose.
I sighed and pulled my ponytail out setting my damp hair free, I shook it out and ran my fingers through it trying to detangle it. After taming my hair, I checked my mascara. Thank God it was waterproof. After making myself look somewhat presentable, I stared into the mirror. My light hazel eyes are still slightly swollen from crying last night. I turned around and leaned against the mirror, I glanced up at the floor count. Floor 79, 6 more to go. I closed my eyes and began taking deep calming breaths.
“Don’t fuck this up, don’t fuck this up” I repeated to myself. I heard the elevator ding. I opened my eyes and saw I was on level 85 “Shit”
I stepped out and looked around, the white, black, and gold colors were up here too, with floor-to-ceiling mirrors and crystal glass lights. I began walking forwards to the receptionist’s desk, a petite beach blonde sat behind it. “Hi,” I said with a smile while walking up to her. She glanced up from her computer at me, and she smiled.
“Hi, I’m Leah. What can I do for you?” she asked.
“I’m here for Mr. Hills' photoshoot, I’m a little bit late. I got stuck in traffic” She tilts her head, running her tongue over her teeth. She leaned back in her office chair and chuckled.
“And the rain it seems,” She said looking me up and down, I looked down at myself and sighed. Great. Leah leaned up, grabbed her office phone, and dialed a number. “That photographer is here,” she said, pausing while glaring at me as she rolled her eyes. “Sure thing Ollie,” she said, hanging up the phone. “Through there,” She said pointing to frosted black glass doors.
“Thanks” I smiled, she rolled her eyes again and went back to looking at her computer. I turned awkwardly and walked towards the doors. As soon as I got to them, I knocked lightly.
“Yes?” A deep voice sounded from the other side. I slowly turned the handle pushing the door open while walking in. “Ah! Thought you’d never show” I heard as I walked in. The pictures Lily showed me didn’t do this man justice because Holy. Shit. My eyes immediately widened, taking in the sight of Mr. Hills as he stood up from his desk buttoning his black suit jacket. He was indeed tall, dark, and oh so handsome. His huge frame made its way toward me.
“Oliver Hills” He introduced himself, holding his hand out for me to shake.
“Uh, Ellie Johns- I mean Young,” I said introducing myself and correcting my last name. I took his hand and shook it, his skin was warm and smooth. I looked up at him as he smiled, his teeth perfectly white, and his face was freshly shaved. WHO CREATED THIS MAN.
“Well, shall we get started, Ms. Young?” He grinned.
