I

In my profession, I don't get very much sleep, despite being what I'd consider, an important job. I'm a surgeon. There isn't very much time where I'm not cutting someone open.

I'm spent. Id just got home from an 18-hour surgery. Open heart. I was starting to fall asleep on the drive home, and once I got home, I was ready to pass out. I took a warm shower and laid down. I dozed off, replaying the surgery in my head. They'd lived, but it was all I could think about. This isn't unusual or anything. The images of organs and blood being the only thing being projected in my mind's eye. I closed my eyes and dozed off...

...BEEP BEEP BEEP...

My

alarm. I reached over to my nightstand and tried to turn it off, instead, missing and slamming my hand against my nightstand. I did this a couple of times before turning it off. I didn't even bother to check the time, I was still exhausted. I laid back down and fell back to sleep...

I woke up to a beam of sunlight coming through my windows. I tilted my head to the left a little to get the light out of my eyes. I wasn't as tired, but I felt sluggish. I laid there for a while, not a thought going through my head. Just a blank stare into the ceiling.

I got out of bed and took another shower to wake myself up a little. It wasn't a long one or anything. I put on some sweatpants and a random T-shirt and walked to my kitchen to make breakfast. I opened my pantry to find, it was completely empty. fuck. Now I have to go to the store. Great.

Despite being a big doctor, making a decent salary, I've always hated grocery shopping. So I walked my hungry ass back to my room and changed into some normal clothes and grabbed my car keys, that had been left on the kitchen counter, and headed out.
