Summary

Étaient Duchamp, a French American Detective is given a case. A very unforgiving one at that. With the wild streaks of murders happening almost every day it's difficult to have time to lay back and just have a smoke. The detective was assigned a case called Clown Town. The case involves the streak of murders and their details. The images taken of the scenes are not for the faint of heart, the bodies would be found mangled up and almost completely unrecognizable with those large cut open smiling faces. The faces were sometimes even painted like that of a different types of clowns, but there was one thing they all had in common. The bodies had the words 'Clown Town' etched into their skin with a sort of knife. if any weapons were found at the scene they had no trace of who the killer was. Étaient was determined to find the slip up, and once he does. It would be the end of this so called 'Clown Town.'

Prologue

August 19th, 2056.

Area: New New York City

Location: Brooklyn.

It was a pretty wet evening, it was very close to midnight an most places were closed if not starting to close. Only places open,we're the god damned robotic shops. You know, the ones where androids, robots, any sort of mechanically animated thing would stay up and greet people late at night who are looking to have a good time or maybe just get something to eat.

These days it seems like the machines are taking over the jobs and lives of humans. Poverty has skyrocketed since the 30's when, scientist and engineer, Marcus Linche created the first human like functioning robot. The man was a genius, but a psychopath was what most would call him. He was indeed a brilliant man and a visionary, but even now government officials aren't sure if it was a good idea to bring in these robots into the streets.

Sure the machines gave people a huge advantage, elderly people were cared for in their own homes instead of being sent to an old folks home, people with children always had a care taker. Robots even made it easier for communications and product sales. Considering they were the highest prized possessions a person could have, no real emotion, no real feeling, just obedience and abiding by the rules.

It would be what most would call a perfect world, a Utopia, if those were the only cases. But sadly their not. On this particular night, the only people in the streets were going home, or were the dreaded machines. On this rainy evening a young lady by the name Kathryn LaVey was walking home. She didn't live to far away from the diner she worked in. In fact she was only three blocks away. She was your average Plain Jane. Coming to the city for a new start, wanting to start from nothing and maybe make something of herself later. But little miss future actress chose the wrong night to take a late shift.

The woman was walking along with an umbrella over her head. She wore a heavy black raincoat and some black penny shoes. Her feet, of course, would be soaked when she got home and that was a price she was willing to pay. Stopping at a cross walk and watching as the bright neon lights of the traffic director shone on the wet pavement. It looked like the tar black concrete was a mirror that the rainfall laying on the surface reflected.

After a couple cars drove through the lights she was singled to go ahead and cross with an animated pedestrian walking light. She made it across the street and decided that she'd take a short cut through the park to get home. It would take less time than having to walk around it to get home. Her first mistake. Ms. LaVey was just walking through the park with her only visible company being a garbage removal Android. Who would sweep up leaves, twigs, cigarette buds, and dead animals off the sidewalk and trails. It waved with a very human smile and 'good evening madam.' To Kathryn, she waved back and continued on her way.

The thing you must know about trash androids is they have no emergency protocol, or alert system. Considering they pick up dead animal bodies all day and night when it comes to work and such. So as it wouldn't alert the authorities every time it saw a dead bird, squirrel, dog, or maybe even a cat. They shut off the security protocol. The second mistake Kathryn made. As she walked along she could hear the rain ticking as it hit the ground. It was relaxing and seemed deafening to any other sound that would try to make itself apparent. She had only made her way around 6 meters away from the Android when she heard it speak again. 'Good evening sir.' This didn't bother Kathryn at the moment, maybe they were just passing through same as her. But it wasn't till she could smell something rotting. It was a putrid sent, and it made her stomach turn in knots. She looked back for a millisecond before noticing the one thing that was most important. The bright glare of light that bounced off the sharp blade being held by a very punk like dressed man. Who was wearing the most unsettling frowning clown mask. It was only further spine shivering with the fluffy flat irons blue hair clearly belonging to the person wearing the mask. The woman had to remain calm. Her only thoughts being she hoped to Android might call the authorities. A mistake she overlooked when walking into the park in the first place.

Kathryn began to sprint, she dropped and disregarded her umbrella and just started running and shouting for help. Hopefully she'd make it home just in time to call the police and be safe. But the clown masked man seemed to have other ideas. He was clearly much faster as he caught up to her quickly.

Shoving her roughly to the ground, Kathryn landed in her hands and knees with a thud before she was kicked on her side, and she started trying to crawl away or get back up. But that was when a second suspect emerged. A woman wearing very similar yet feminine punk outfit with a smiling clown mask and long subtle waves in her cotton candy pink hair, currently being drenched by the rain. The trickling water slipping down the side of her mask almost like tears. It left Kathryn uncomfortable. The woman held a bat behind her head with both her arms draped over it. She tilted her head before pulling out a pocket knife and stabbing Kathryn through her hand and nailing her there stuck to the dirt. Kathryn let out a tortured scream of pain as her hand was impaled and she was than knocked to the side once more. Making the knife very roughly planted in the ground rip open her flesh more as it split her index and middle finger from each other.

Her left leg was than stomped on multiple times as the cracking and breaking of bones were heard. The man was destroying her only method of escaping them now. She laid there in pain as she soon grew more bloodied and bruised. The sounds of her screamed being blocked out by the rain, and the Android cleaning up leaves didn't acknowledge the screams, treating them as though they were nothing but raindrops on leaves.
