Prologue
It was many years ago when my father, King Nollan Farron Spryte II, ruled over the country of Spryte. During his reign, all seemed peaceful from my bedroom window, but little did I know that the whole world was in disarray. Chaos crept upon Spryte like a shadow, covering everything in darkness. I was a significant part of this chaos. I had little serenity once the disarray eventually found me inside my palace walls.
I was met with utter betrayal, death, and fear. My country was turned inside-out. My father's throne was taken, and I was sent out into the wilderness with only three companions. Distraught and confused, I found the only way to pull myself together was to move forward.
During my days on the run, I experienced and learned many things. I learned the darkest secrets of my country and found what it was like to have nothing. I experienced pain both physically and psychologically. But through everything, I found the truth and love.
I had recently come of age when everything changed. My image of my family shattered, and I found myself distrustful of everyone around me. I blamed my losses on myself and magic.
Magic had only recently been discovered a few years after my birth. It is in crystals of vibrant colors. The crystals gleam when held up to sunlight. Its beauty can match no other gem.
Of course, the rich crave its beauty and power. Thus, Spryte began to form different social classes based on the amount of magic a noble owned. My father owned the most magic in the kingdom because he was the King. Yet, when I was young, my father hid his power beneath the castle so that I never saw it until I grew older.
Magic crystals had an affinity for metal objects. It was found that a crystal could be combined with a weapon. It can also integrate with other things, but the most popular among the noble people were weapons. To avoid conflict, the use of magic was illegal.
This law had little effect on the wealthiest people, and they still used magic. They held so much power that it was easy to avoid punishment.
Magic affected the whole kingdom, but within those times, I was sheltered. I was protected from the evils, so many people faced. I was naive, immature, and didn’t know what my people were experiencing.
In my childhood, I was often considered a problem child. I was threatened to be sent away a few times, but fortunately, those threats were never carried out. I remember thinking before the calamity that I wouldn’t have to deal with so many problems once I grew older. How wrong I was.
I am Princess Rosellia Farron Spryte II. This is the story of the downfall of Spryte in the words of myself and my companions. This volume’s name is Bluebird, the symbol of Spryte.
Calamity and downfall bring out the authentic character of a person—heroes and regular people alike. The true characters of myself were also shown. This is my story.
