April Kills Fools

"The main character and title of this book came to me before I could conceive the plot. While I was overseas for work, I met someone who became a very dear friend of mine. He also shared my passion for horror stories, scary movies, and storytelling. I found out that he was born on April first and I just could not let him be without making all these jokes about what could go horribly wrong on his birthday. Out of the blue, we started brainstorming on a plot about an anti-hero who was unlucky enough to be born on April Fool’s Day. We knew right away that her name had to be April. My juices were flowing and sketching out the plot provided a medium for us to escape during our time in that place. I remember watching a movie based on the infamous Josef Fritzl, I was so upset that a father could abuse their daughter in such an inexcusable and heinous manner and out of all places, Austria. One of the most peaceful countries in the world. I read the story in its entirety, and something was just not sitting right with me. I wanted revenge for the daughter. As authors we purge through creative writing. So the plot evolved around the abused girl who blossomed into a Goddess to dispatch pranksters on April Fool’s Day. Not any pranksters, deadly ones who leave a trail of bodies in their path yet only get a slap on the wrist. Growing up I loved watching these scary installments: Friday the 13th, A nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and I asked my younger self: why are they all middle-aged men chasing after innocent women and children for the sole purpose of inflicting great suffering? Over the years, I have seen other scary films with women depicted as the supervillain or anti-hero but the characters were never as relatable, or permanent fixtures as the likes of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, and Michael Myers. April was going to remedy that with her very own brand of specialties. The fact and the matter is that she only kills guilty fools on April Fool’s Day Cheers, Ra!"

One Highly Sexy Writer - Read Her!

"So good to find a writer who pushes boundaries with her frank, bold, brave, candid and occasionally explicit writing style. But I say this in the context of great visual storytelling - I felt I was there! The characters evolved and I felt empathy with them, especially the lead. Full of shocks and surprises at the end! Good build up - do read the chapters in between, this plot builds, interspersed with some well-structured headers & dialogue. My only comment would be that some of the phrasing and sections might have more impact if shifted - juggled around to make the tense changes more flowing, more structured - but I'm an OTT structured bod so don't take me too seriously, RA! Overall, a strong, exciting read - much enjoyed, HJ Furl"

Review for the story

"My main issue is only the plot of the story. It is a bit subjective so please don't take it personally as a reflection of your writing skills. Your writing and grammar skills are really good in my opinion. Here is a short list of the points I think that could be more improved upon in the plot: 1. I feel you could delve more deeper into the cult that April's and Mike's parents joined. Such as what does the cult gain from allowing its members to inflict suffering upon others and maybe who are financially backing them (If you mentioned them in the story and I missed them out, do correct me) 2. I feel disappointed in April's way of taking vengeance against those girls who talked back at her and the boys who got involved in the Russian Roulette that caused Mike's death. I was expecting more of an Agent 47/John Wick move which April pulled out when she killed her parents and her maid. Not some ghost stuff. 3. I wonder why Mike decided to play Russian Roulette, when he knew he was gonna meet April later in the evening. Also I am surprised Mike didn't know the dangers of Russian Roulette. Anyways, please keep up the good work ! "

Good job!

"(Rewritten review) I liked the plot! I really liked how you gave us an insight on April’s life as a child and the trauma that made her who she was. After her only true love died, it wasn’t a suprise that she turned out that way. However, sometimes I felt like it was too rushed and didn’t explain some part I wished would be explained. Good example is what happened with her parents, how she got away with it, etc.. You can probably remember all these things from my last review:) Big praise on the poem you made! I loved it, so creative. I’m curious about more insight on April. Good luck!"
