Kill it?

Stab it.

It was the only logical conclusion. Brutal, of course, but what was a mercenary if not that. His tall figure towered over the bed casting a dark shadow. The cramped space made him appear even more monstrous than usual. Nobody wanted to admit it but Cyprus wasn't a suitable partner for most missions. Always taking up too much space. Always scaring off potential customers.

He grabbed the tightly bundled blanket and raised it to eye level.

Light. Are all spawns this light?

The little thing slept as if it's life was guaranteed. Then, as if to taunt him it yawned it's tiny mouth and started making suckling noises.

Cyprus lowered the thing back to its black resting place. Wiping the sweat off his eyebrow he gave a final tap to the toys dangling above the child and unsheathed one of his ten daggers. The sharpest one to deliver a merciful passing.

He had to be quick. The flames would reach this room soon. Less than a few minutes to be precise.

It was either death by fire or death by stabbing for this unfortunate soul. Sing always told him he never had to worry his muscly head about serious questions while working under him yet here he was.

Cyprus closed his eyes and swung full force towards its tiny head. He halted just centimeters from the newborns long eyelashes as a thought crossed his mind.

It's not my problem if I leave.

With that Cyprus tucked his blade back and ran across the room swinging his full weight onto his left foot and shattered a window with a swift kick. Tumbling two stories down he landed on a neatly tailored bush as planned.

Once outside he opened his mouth wide and swallowed the fresh midnight air. It felt good to breathe.

Suddenly a high pitched shriek rang out into the darkness.
