Terrific suspense

"You do amazing with narrative and perspective. It was the perfect story-telling aura and it's safe to say that the addition of your story being a fragment of reality in Appalachian Mountains just added on to the horror that you're exploring it. It's really spine chilling to me! Overall, you have solid grammar and sentence structures too :) I want to see your story as the portrayal of discomfort about the sheer gravity of the characters' struggling life. If you enjoy Historic Fiction, you'll like this one.

"The author's writing style is captivating. The matter-of-fact style is perfect for a historic fiction story, and he gets the details right, and they seem factual. The plot is heart-breaking, and most of the main characters don't fair well in the first few chapters. It's a compelling read. "

Historical junkies dream!

"The writer does a great job of painting the imagery. You can tell they did their research and put a lot of time into being accurate about their descriptions and verbiage. It has a lot of twists and turns so far. It has a lot of hard truths and scenes that would fit for this time period so as other reviewers say it is dark. Interesting plot and characters so far! "

This is suspenseful!

"This isn't my normal style of story but once I got in, it was difficult to put it down! The story is haunting, dark, and gritty. It's real. The characters are realistic, and incredibly flawed in ways that make them interesting to read. I was both horrified by the character's actions while sympathizing with their woes. I can't wait to pick it back up, but it's so good! "

Great Writing

"I'm not usually one for horror novels like this, it was long and dark, as a thriller should be. I thought the writing style was really good and descriptive. Clear and concise. I thought the world building was particularly well done. The plot and characters were well thought out too. Well done!"

It has nothing to do with Metallica or Clint Eastwood's movie

"Therefore it sucks. Nah, I'm kidding, but I will say this story is quite good. Chapter 1 in particular was intriguing, normally when it comes to messed up descriptions involving violence I would consider it shock value, but Robert here made it work perfectly. His technical writing skills are also good. However, I will say that the only complaint that I have is that... I got kind of lost when reading it, at least regarding Chapters 2 and 3. But, I think that the author may achieve some success if he keeps review swapping, accepts the constructive criticism, fixes the most common problems people present him, and keep modifying some stuff. That is what Inkitt recommends. Keep up the good work!"

A Tale of those Touched by Tragedy

"This was a unique and well-conceived story! I felt sympathy, a true liking, and genuine horror for the various characters in the novel. At times, the writing of this author was almost poetic, and I really enjoyed his writing style! I would definitely read his writings in the future!"

Unforgiven

"The writing is extremely well done. The storyline flows, and is easy to follow after the second chapter. This story is dark. I don't mean in a murder mystery, who done it, way. I mean it is one chapter after another of the worst that can happen to people who are superstitious and ignorant. These are the dark and horrible tales that became blue grass songs one hundred years later. Haunting haunting tales. The writing is well done, it is just too dark for me. I can't read any more."
