Hiding away from the authorities and her parents, Avery agrees to go back to Eli's house, which is beautiful from the outside. Much darker, and scarier on the inside. Prologue

His deep blue eyes penetrated mine, like a missile crashing into the walls I built to protect me. I didn’t know him well, but something about the way he was looking at me drew me in closer. I didn’t realize we were touching until his hand reached around my waist, pulling me in for a kiss.

I let my defenses fall as the kiss took my breath away. I didn’t need anyone else. All I needed was him in this moment. His perfectly toned body pressed against mine. Our tongues played hockey and I tugged at the hair on the back of his hair gently, gasping against his lips.

Before it could get too intense, I pulled away, terrified of getting attached. He smiled at me, showing me his pearly-white teeth. God, everything about this man is perfect. That’s what I was thinking as we stared at each other for a few minutes. Only it felt like hours, and I didn’t want to end this dream.

But he brushed my hair out of my eyes, gazing into them as we watched each other like a motion picture. That’s when he spoke up, the sound sending electricity through my body. “What’s your name?” Behind his eyes, I saw a glimpse of another soul inside. It had the ferocity of a wolf and the elegance of a man. What could it be?

“A-Avery,” I stutter, trying to recover from the racing heart in my chest. He chuckled, which confused me slightly, but the noise was gorgeous.

“No, it’s not.” This statement confused me, and I was about to retaliate with aggression, but his soft, but strong eyes took the words right out of my mouth.

“T-then what is it?” I ask, my heart pounding against my ribcage. The thudding beat causing slight pain in my breast.

“Mine,” He says, kissing me once more. I was confused by his seemingly random outburst and then I realized what he said. And it was true. I was his.
