PART: I

Chapter: 1

A spirit in the form of a young man wore a dirty trench coat causing parents and children to walk away from him thinking he was a dangerous hobo.

“Pfft, humans,” the spirit said, opening a bottle of white whiskey and then chugging it.

A second spirit, Nebula, in the form of a skinny, pale woman joined the spirit.

“What took you so long?”

“Traffic.”

“Traffic?”

“Had to murder someone in traffic to possess this body,” Nebula explained. “Messy job, but that’s just our life.”

The spirit nodded. “Did you find the location of Jack Parkins?”

“Yes, but there’s something wrong with him,” Nebula began, “he’s a baby, Magnus.”

“How is that wrong?” Magnus said, expressionless. “He grows up to be the greatest spirit hunter the world will ever know. It’s been prophesied!”

“I just don’t know if I can kill a baby…”

“Then don’t,” Magnus said. “Kill the parents. I will kill the baby. Remember, we’re saving our kind by doing this.”

This time, there was no black void. Instead, the sky turned to night, and the trees were replaced with houses in rows.

That night, the two spirits arrived at a suburban home with a garden in the front yard and a Beetle in the driveway.

Nebula slowly walked into a bedroom with two people sleeping, happily.

“I’m sorry,” Nebula said. A dagger appeared in each of her hands, and she stabbed the couple under the sheets.

Nebula walked upstairs into the baby’s bedroom. Magnus turned to Nebula. “This is for all the spirits,” he said, holding a foot long dagger over the boy.

Magnus raised the dagger, ready to kill, but Nebula tackled Magnus and wrestled for the knife.

She strangled Magnus, and eventually Magnus died with his gray blood on her hands.

The baby started crying, Nebula picked him up, and her skin turned to tan, and her eyes to blue. She had turned human.

The baby boy started crying. Nebula shushed the baby back to sleep. “Jack, I will take care of you. I promise we will hunt down these wretched spirits.”
