PROLOGUE

Raindrops fell on my face as I cried my heart out. Jonathan was dead. The only thing left to me. I couldn't stop crying.

The police officer offered his consolations and condolences. Jonathan was robbed and badly stabbed in his heart.

Like I needed an explanation at the time. I cried even more. Jonathan was a hotel receptionist. The hotel was hijacked. They robbed Jonathan.

He was quick-witted. He managed to dial the police department. But he was stabbed in the heart seven times, brutally as the hijackers found out.

I felt like shrieking. I wailed, and my pretty face was red and puffy. My grey eyes were red.

"We are very sorry, Miss Hill," offered the police officer. "Your brother saved many people's lives,"

I didn't care.

All I cared for at the time was my brother.

I wailed and moaned. The police officer waited for me to finish my crying ceremony.

When I didn't stop, he said solemnly, "I am extremely sorry, Miss. You being very young, it must be very hard for you. Your brother's body will be given to you in a few days. We have to run a postmortem, even though it was stabbing that killed him. Thing is, he was stabbed more in his ribs than in his heart. Witnesses say it was stabbing but you can rely on no one these days. Your brother says in his will, that whatever he has, he leaves to you. Apart from your house. You aren't supposed live in this house until you are old enough to look after yourself and have a proper job. You are supposed to live with...." He checked the paper he was reading from, "... Miss Belinda Langston, your ex-sister-in-law until you are old enough. Miss Langston is alright with that. She is delighted, if I use the right word."

That was the best and worst day of my life.
