After Queen Rielle died, a strange new surge of people with abilities swept over the land. And now, there are the Furyforged, all of them are girls with something in common — they all have the power of the Furyborn. The only problem? Furious

As Jalyce walks about her home, she hears the sound of footsteps fast approaching her home. She turns, and the door is thrown open on a phantom wind from a Windsinger and she watches in shock as a group of men enters her home. The Windsinger approaches Jalyce.

"Where are your daughters?" he demands.

Jalyce shakes her head. "What is this? Who are you?"

The Windsinger steps forward, closer to her. "Nothing of your concern. Now, answer me. Where. Are. Your. Children."

Jalyce shakes her head. "I don't know what you want with them. So.... as you can see sir, I'm protecting them. I will not tell you where they are."

"Oh? Hmm."

Suddenly the air is ripped from her lungs. The men close in on her, and she sinks to her knees on the floor of her kitchen. The men circle her.

"Now, now, Jalyce, I think we both know why we are here tonight. Tell us where the Furyborn daughter is, and you won't have to die."

She turns her gaze on the man speaking to her. He is a Waterworker named Kodan. Kodan sneers at her. "We just want to keep her safe. Can you truly guarantee that of her? Away from Banegard?"

Jalyce stiffens. Then, the earth beneath their feet quakes, and shivers, then a spike of stone shoots up and stabs into the Windsinger who was choking her. He screams in pain and Jalyce flees from her home, darting out into the night. Furyborn children are not supposed to be born to people like her. As an Earthshaker, Jalyce should've had two Earthshaker daughters. Instead, her older daughter, Emmara, is Furyborn.

She can control all the elements.

Jalyce is now leading these men in the opposite direction of which her husband, Hyruni, took the girls. Hyruni is taking them to someplace safe. Somewhere that these men, who don't work for the Church or for anyone of good standing, these men are criminals. Who knows what they want her daughter for.

Then, just as she reaches the main road that will take her to another safe house, a home where her sister lives, her sister a Metalmaster, a Shadowcaster sends shadows her way, and they envelope Jalyce, making it impossible for her to move or even see.

"I will never lead you to my daughters!"

"Shame," coos a man. He strikes her in the head with a blunt object and she collapses, falling unconscious.

~~~~~~~~
Ellisanna and Emmara are hiding. Their father, Hyruni, also is here, at his mother's home. Hyruni is a Shadowcaster, and he has trained Emmara well .... but when she started her Earthshaker abilities .... her Metalmaster abilities as well ... and then, finally, her Sunspinner power, that comes from his mother, he was stunned to realize his daughter, Emmara, was Furyborn.
Emmara and Ellisanna are only seven and five years old, respectively. They play on the floor, and Ellis watches as her sister creates shadows that dance and swirl around the two of them.
Suddenly, there's three knocks on the front door. Their father presses a finger to his lips, and then turns around and opens the door. His mother hurries into the house and she sighs, sounding out of breath.
"What's wrong?" Hyruni asks.
His mother locks eyes with him. "They found her. Jalyce is gone. And these men are after your daughters now."
But then, shadows swirl through the room, swallowing up the whole space. The fire in the hearth dies.
"Emmara, stop," her father says.
"I am not doing that, father."
Then, the men break down the door. And before the Sunspinner or the Shadowcaster can do a thing, both little girls are gone.
Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
Farial-Jap-Girl: なんて素敵で、予想もしなかった読書体験なんでしょう! これは間違いなく、ありきたりな恋愛小説ではありません。むしろ、そうじゃないことに感謝したいくらいです。登場人物たちがとてもリアルに感じられるんです。欠点があって、複雑で、情熱的で、人間らしい「白か黒かでは割り切れない」魅力的なグレーの部分に満ちています。怒りや支配、愛、そして怒りの赤い霧に飲み込まれそうになったときに、別の道を選ぶ可能性を描いているところも、とても好きでした。でも正直、一番の驚きは、この本がとにかく楽しく読めたこと! 作者はヒロインの声を見事に描き出していて、私はすっかり別の時代、別の場所へ連れ去られたような気分になりました...
E: I like it but the style is just a little too disjointed. The short snippet sentences work in certain moments, but there are so many that it doesn't feel like it's flowing as well as it could be.
