Part 5
“Hanketsu Part 5” Yuki Sembommatsu, edited by Louie
Kevin was pulled from his peaceful dreams by the sudden and relentless noise from the machinery of lawn maintenance. Kevin made his way down the hall to Kentaro’s room and found that he too was awakened by the noise, so they decided to go down to the beach early. On the way they passed the surreal scene of two gardeners dressed in bright green jumpsuits, one pushing the lawnmower and the other trimming the bushes, and recognized them as the ubiquitous bartender/bodyguards, looking tired as always. They waved good morning to them as they passed.
Walking towards the beach Kevin was reminded of the film “On the Beach,” a 1959 American film starring Gregory Peck about the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. Australia had survived but the cloud of radioactive fallout would soon arrive there and bring certain death. The film was done in black and white and there was a haunting score based on the Australian folk melody “Waltzing Matilda” both of which helped to underline the sadness and hopelessness of the story. Kevin wondered why his thoughts always drifted towards the dark and gloomy.
Kentaro, without prompting, blurted out, “You’ll never believe this: Luna invited me to her bedroom tonight.”
Kevin wondered why he wasn’t invited. Just then a voice came from behind. “Sorry, I couldn’t help overhearing.”
To his surprise he recognized the speaker, who introduced himself as Sadaharu (named after the famous baseball player he later learned), as the guy with the katsudon he met in the cafeteria the other day at the university while he was having katsu-curry. All three stopped on the narrow path to talk, causing others to push their way through.
He began to talk excitedly, “Well from our last encounter you might have guessed that I love to spread rumors, so here’s another one: So I heard this rumor that once you’ve been to Luna’s bedroom you undergo a personality transformation. And it’s more than a rumor because it happened to me! I don’t remember exactly what happened. All I remember was that I was in her room and she was lying face down on a towel the bed, her finely muscled body drenched in fragrant oil with one of those bodyguard guys in a white tuxedo slowly massaging her back. The effect was both sensual and hypnotic as her body moved under the touch of the bodyguard. As I watched, the other bodyguard appeared with one of those pink bubbly cocktails and handed it to me. I remember nothing after the drink. It’s as if the rest of the night was erased from my memory. Soon after that episode I changed my college major from law, which was kind of a tradition in my family going back to my grandfather, to art. Now I’m doing abstract paintings.” He displayed his hands to show the paint still on his fingernails and continued, “I’ve heard similar stories from the other guys. We just come here and play water volleyball naked for her every night. I’ve never felt so happy in all my life. We’re going to play beach volleyball today in our stupid hanketsu bikini bottoms.”
Sadaharu looked up as raised his arms as if to embrace the blue sky and was carried away by the crowd making its way to the beach. They noticed some men in hanketsu bikini bottoms, obviously members of the beach volleyball match. None of the hanketsu were as cute as Kentaro’s. Some had a boyish sexuality while others had that of a more mature, muscled body – the Village People’s song “Macho Man” played in his head.
The movie “On the Beach” once again darkened his thoughts. He longed to rid his mind of the gloom and the thoughts of the annihilation of humanity, and wondered if he could be changed by a visit to Luna’s bedroom. He wasn’t at all concerned about Kentaro’s transformation as he couldn’t be more easy going. Still he wondered who the hell those bartenders/bodyguards/gardeners/massage-therapists in white tuxedos were.
Kentaro whispered to Kevin, “My ass is aching for you to rub, squeeze and probe it but there are people watching. Let’s get into the water, okay?”
Kevin looked around and saw an old couple next to them having lunch out of an old fashioned picnic basket. The beach was private and only for those wealthy enough to have a beach house here and their guests.
As he followed Kentaro into the water, Kevin imagined what must have been ten tiny angels circling Kentaro’s ass to herald his perfect hanketsu, shining and golden. They circled faster and faster as though they were on an out-of-control merry-go-round and their halos flew off into the water crying. Now the angels were pointing at the crying halos and were laughing. The sun reflected on the water made the halos shimmer and sparkle.
Kevin was, for the first time, waist deep in the water. He recalled the dream of the shark the day before, but as soon as he felt Kentaro’s firm ass come alive in his hands he forgot all about his aversion to water. Kentaro, face to face with Kevin, at first letting out small sighs at Kevin’s touch as he squeezed his ass and shoved his fingers slowly, smoothly down his crack, slid slowly down Kevin’s body, tongue tasting the length of him, stopping and making sensual circles whenever he felt Kevin twitch. When he was reasonably sure that Kevin was at the edge of an orgasm he slid into the water, simultaneously pulling down the sides of Kevin’s swimsuit and taking Kevin into his mouth. Kevin felt the warm soft inside of Kentaro’s mouth and his skillful tongue working together to match the rhythm of Kevin’s pulsating hardness and the thrusting of his hips. As he did this Kentaro was, with his free hand, taking care of his own pleasure. An orgasm came in Kevin as a wave, a tsunami, that moved through his body and pumped his warm milky liquid into Kentaro’s mouth, which moved faster and faster to drain every drop from Kevin, as he too let his own orgasm dissolve into the sea. With dreamy eyes and a mixture of sea water and semen dripping from the corner of his mouth, Kentaro came up for air and said half jokingly, “Hope it was as good for you as it was for me. You’re nice and big and a bit salty.”
They stood there holding each other to keep their exhausted bodies from collapsing. The fingers of the ocean current caressing their bodies, they were still tingling from their climax. Kevin’s mind was transported far across the sea it seemed, such was the intensity of his pleasure. The shock of being pulled out of his reverie by the realization that he’d lost his swimsuit was too much for him and he fainted.
Kevin regained consciousness and found himself lying face up on the sand with a towel wrapped around his lower body because of the lost swimsuit. He could see the tiny angels, skipping and holding their halos like tambourines in on hand singing “hallelujah” in unison. Kevin thought that if he died at such a happy moment it would be perfect. He would thank his mother and father for giving him a short but happy life and die with a smile.
About five or seven men were standing over Kevin. They looked like bodybuilders with their well defined muscles. Once again the song “Macho Man” played in his head. “Are you okay,” one of the guys asked, “You just fainted right there in the water.” He recognized them as Luna’s lovers. They had saved his life.
Kevin was still lying down, now with closed eyes. He grabbed a handful of sand as you might grasp a bed sheet. It was hot to the touch. He fell back into a daydream. Thousands of pink flamingos were flying across the sky. They’d left behind their children, who were crying loudly. It was funny because Kevin had no idea what kind of sound flamingos made when they were sad.
When the last little flamingo flew away Kevin’s eyes were still closed. He felt someone kiss him awake like in a fairy tale. He felt drops of warm liquid tapping his forehead, slowly. It was Kentaro. “Why are you crying?” as his tears were still falling on Kevin’s face.
“I almost killed you, Kevin,” he explained.
“Nonsense Kentaro! Stop crying. It’s not your fault. I should have told you about my fear of water, but at that moment the fear disappeared and was the furthest thing from my mind. I didn’t realize that it would suddenly return but, Kentaro, it was still the happiest moment of my life.”
While Kevin was unconscious all of Luna’s lovers came down to play beach volleyball. Now he could relax watching the parade of hanketsu, Kevin thought. Luna was beside him in a beach chair in a scarlet Chanel bikini that must have cost upwards of $10,000. She was taking photos of the whole spectacle for her 15,000 Instagram followers. Through her Gucci sunglasses she looked them over. Kevin could see that Kentaro’s hanketsu was her new target.
