The meeting

Hearing the sound of her alarm, Chloe groaned and got under her blanket hoping it will stop but the alarm clock had a mind of its own and was bent on performing its duty of waking her up. Deciding to be smarter than the alarm clock, she threw it against the wall and went back to sleep with a smile on her face only to be woken by her friend.

“Chloe, get your beautiful behind off that bed, or else we will be late for the lecture’’ Jane shouted and she ignored her

“I’m serious. Get off that bed or I’m dumping water on you”

“I hate my life. I hate school. I hate Jane. I hate my parents. I hate history. I hate alarm clocks. I hate Mondays-”

“We have 30mins more so continue hating while getting dressed for class,” Jane said dragging her off the bed and she went into the bathroom grumbly.

“You do realize that will be the 10th alarm clock you’ve thrown against the wall this month, right?” Jane said as they were walking down the hallway

“Well, what can I say? I haven’t found the perfect one for me. When I do, our love will be eternal” Chloe said

“Are we talking about the same thing?”

“Yes. We have that kind of relationship”

“Who?”

“I and my alarm clock”

“Why do I even bother? See you later in history class. I have music now”

“Alright, twinkle bells,” Chloe said as Jane headed to her class.

Jane and Chloe were best friends. They’ve been together since kindergarten and they also manage to end up in the same university. They have different tastes in things and sometimes Chloe wonders why they are still friends. Not in the mood for the class that morning, Chloe went to the library instead. she is not the book-ey type but she loves history so no matter how much she hated the library she always finds herself there looking for history books and such. After spending some time in the library, she went to her history class which happen to be her last class of the day.

When the class ended, she went to wait outside for Jane beside her car since she had to see the lecturer.

“Hey” she heard a voice in front of her and looked up to see a guy standing where she heard the voice

“Are you waiting for someone?” he said and she kept staring at him like he had grown two heads

“I’m Richard Truce,” he said extending his hand for a handshake

“I’m sorry to do you need something,” she said instead

“No. I saw you standing all by yourself and just felt like coming over” he said.

“Aww. That’s so sweet of you.” Chloe said with her voice dripping with sarcasm.

“You don’t know me, do you?”

“Am I supposed to?” she said

“You’ll be the first.” He said smiling at her

“Alright,” Chloe said wondering why the guy was bothering her. Just then Chloe heard a scream beside her.

“Oh my god! It’s Richard Truce. I’m a huge fan. It’s so nice to see you.” Jane shouted jumping like a kid given candy.

“What the fuck, Jane? That voice isn’t meant for screaming.” Chloe said

“I’ve told you to stop using swear words, it’s not healthy,” Jane said “Just get into the car.”

“Can I get an autograph?” Jane said and Chloe groaned

“Yea. Where should I sign?” Richard said and Jane brought out her diary. Tired of watching them, Chloe got into her car.

“See you around princess,” Richard said

“Bye stranger,” Chloe said giving him a tight-lipped smile as he left

Jane on the other hand was lost in a daze. She kept on watching him as he left as if he was a prince charming who just stepped out of one of her dreams.

“Jane, get into the car or I swear I’ll leave you behind” Chloe shouted and she let out another round of screams.

“Holy shit! That voice is for singing not for screaming” Chloe said covering her ears

“Oh my God! Do you know how long I’ve been wanting to meet that guy? I’ve been praying to bump into him since I heard he’s in this school. Today was a dream come true for me. How did you guys meet?”

“I was standing by my car and he came over. Who is he?” Chloe said and Jane looked at her shocked as if she said her cat died.

“You don’t know who he is?”

“Am I supposed to?”

“Chloe, he’s a popular musician. Every girl’s dream is for him to notice them even if it’s for one minute. Which world do you live in girl?” Jane said

“I didn’t know there’s a general girl dream I’m meant to be fulfilling,” Chloe said rolling her eyes

“I’m so happy I got his autograph,” Jane said and Chloe smiled

“Good for you”

On getting home that day, Chloe went on to bed feeling extremely tired.

Richard couldn’t stop thinking about the girl he met throughout that day. She will be fun to hang out with, he thought. He couldn’t deny she was beautiful but the vibe she was giving off was a no-man-wanted vibe making him wonder if she was a lesbian. Not having much to do for the rest of the day, he went to the park hoping to get inspiration for his next musical album since he was given a deadline by his producer.

By the time Chloe woke up, she realizes she was already late for her part-time job as a waitress in a 5star restaurant. So, she got dressed hurriedly and rush out of the house.

“Sorry I’m late,” she said

“Well, you are still within your 30mins grace. So, no harm done” Cassidy said heading into the changing room as Chloe took her place.

“I and the girls are heading out to a club this evening. Do you want to come along?” Cassidy asked.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to come. I have tons of papers to write. Besides laurel hates my gut.” Chloe said. Laurel was one of their co-workers who always finds ways to make things difficult for her.

“Papers?”

“Yea. Schoolwork.”

“Oh… we all know laurel is just jealous of the fact that you don’t have to try hard to look that good,” Cassidy said and Chloe smiled

“I should get to work. Table 5, 9, 13, and 15, right?

“Yea. See you tomorrow girl” Cassidy said and left.

By the time Chloe got home that day, she met Jane at home, that was when she remembered that when she left home Jane was nowhere in sight.

“Where were you?” she asked Jane as she was changing out of her cloth

“I left a note on the fridge for you. Didn’t you see it?”

“No, I didn’t notice”

“Go and check it. My penmanship will not go to waste” Jane said

“Penmanship? Really?” Chloe said going to check the note because that was the only way she could sleep peacefully that night.

“You went out with your boyfriend. You could have just said so.” Chloe said

“Well, some of us have a love life to uphold,” Jane said

“Some of us are happy without one”

“I wonder how we became friends. Are you even normal? What is life without love?”

“Are you sure it’s love? You know people confuse love and lust these days.”

“You know what I meant. I’m not saying I’m in love with Troy but I like him a lot. How can you live without someone to cuddle, have his attention, date, the sex…? It makes life interesting.”

“Jane, I’m not having this conversation with you. I’ve been doing fine without all that jazz”

“You haven’t gone on a date in 3years”

“I’ve been busy”

“Doing what?

“How is Troy? Where did you guys go to?” Chloe said trying to change the topic.

“He’s doing well. We just hang out at one of his friend’s places. He wants me to go home with him next week but I don’t think I’m ready to visit the parent.”

“Why? They will love you.”

“You can’t be too sure. What if they decide I’m not good enough for their son? Or what if they don’t want their son to end up with someone who doesn’t have a big ambition? Or what if I get tired of him after meeting his parent and they think I’m a female dog due to that and then decide to send an assassin to end my life because I hurt their son. I’m too young to die- “

“Wow calm down sweetie. Where is this coming from?”

“Troy’s dad is a senator and his mom has a name in the fashion industry. My dad is just a medical doctor and my mum left us after I was born.”

“And you are an amazing person with a heart of gold that always has everyone in mind. Trust me, they will love you. And if they don’t, it’s their loss. Don’t you ever feel inferior to anyone no matter how deep their pocket is.”

“You know I love you, right?” Jane said with a huge smile on her face making Chloe smile too.

“Yea. You definitely can’t survive without me. I’m your bitch”

“Don’t swear,” Jane said

“Bitch. Goodnight.” Chloe said going to bed.
