Kin

….

Last I saw him

We spotted eagles over J’s

Criss-crossed on a bench

Sitting right on top of the water

The night skyline reflecting off it

Like a handful of beads on black

Chuckling and ashing on ourselves

Dodging security at the dock

Walking slowly back

Silly smiles and soft pats

A kinship like boats meeting on the ocean before a storm

Feels like a nighttime marathon ago

Each reaching for a new continent of space

Stumbling along

But you aren’t supposed to run alone at night

I miss my oldest friend

In the fray for years like soldiers

Ducking and dodging together

Slipping through dragon fire

Holding our breath in mustard gas

Sitting on logs for short respites

Secret rendezvous for long drags

Nods and compliments and stories

Exchanging a light hard to protect

In strong winds

I felt like your mentor

But perhaps I was more of a rival

Partnership secretly a joust

I loved you through barbs and lies because

I Do

And you thought I was a fool

Tricked like an animal in a snare trap

Well, maybe you were right all along

Because I thought we were brothers

Let Your Highness know what you thought about this chapter!

mariedavismd312: This was Avery spiritual read. The last 2 chapters where very disappointing. That was such a let down unless there is a sequel. Burgess should have been punished for what he did. There was no explanation for his hatred for Jeremiah. I figured he was being set but just had the wrong person. I loved ...
