Author's Note
Roxie Leake is coming home. Though she’s not particularly looking forward to it. It’s been nine years since she stepped foot in Tilghman, Oklahoma, and for good reason. After her mother’s death, she couldn’t bring herself to go back. Doesn’t help that her father is finally moving on and her sister resents the fact that Roxie went to New York for university and never looked back. Not to mention, she can’t seem to move past the event that left her heart broken into a million pieces. She may be a talented writer, but she’s also talented at running.
All Scott Campbell wanted was to leave Oklahoma in his rearview mirror, but instead, he married young - like everyone else in Tilghman - and allowed his wife to talk him into staying and giving up his dreams of getting out of Oklahoma. Which ended up being all for nothing. He was now sans a wife, his animal clinic he built from the ground up, and a good portion of his savings, though now has a lingering distrust that made him swear off dating and love altogether. And stuck in the small town he had hoped to never go back to.
They’ve both lost something that they don’t think they can get back and carry a heavier weight on their shoulders than they care to admit. But yet, for some reason they’re both back in the town they think they hate and the last thing they expect is to run into a high school crush that neither has managed to fully forget.
Sometimes you just need some wide open spaces to clear your head and figure things out.
It’s been awhile since I’ve tackled a full on romance, but honestly, I kind of needed it after working on “Something Wicked,” which was very much a darker story. Granted there is a fair amount of drama and such in this one, so it’s not completely fluff. But hey, what’s a story without a bit of drama?
I do promise to have some fluff and humor and such, though. Perhaps some steamy chapters. ;)
Also, first time in a really long time that I’m using first person, so this should be fun.
This is also set in a small town, though in Oklahoma. After I based “Something Wicked” off the town where I went to college, I decided to go one step closer and write a story set in a small town based on where I grew up. It’s definitely got the nostalgia feels going for me.
I’m planning to post three chapters at a time - once a week - since they’re going to be companion chapters in a way - the story is told from the perspective of the two main characters, Roxie and Scott.
