Chapter 1 ~ Skyler

Monday

“SKYLER! WHERE’S MY BREAKFAST!” I heard my dad yelling at me from downstairs. Shit! I forgot his breakfast!

“I’m coming!” I yelled back without finishing my makeup to cover the reminder of ‘no running in the house’ from yesterday.

“You haven’t made my fucking breakfast!” He yelled as I came down the stairs. This has been my life since I was fourteen. Doing what he says when he says it, don’t forget it or get punished. I’ve learned to live with it, this is the rest of my life.

“I forgot, I had to get ready so I can leave in twenty minutes.” I explained as I walked into the kitchen and grabbed a frying pan and two eggs to make him an omelet.

“Did you just talk back to me you little bitch!?” He asked, stumbling in behind me and taking off his belt. Great six thirty and already drunk.

“No, please.” I begged as he swung it at me but missed.

“But you forgot to never talk back to me so I have to remind you.” He said then I felt the belt whip me in the back as I stumbled forward and burned my hand on the stove.

“Ow, please stop.” I said and he put the belt back on before grabbing a bottle of whiskey out of the fridge and stumbling back into the living room.

“Hurry up!” He snapped as I put it on a plate and speed walked into the living room and gave him his plate and went up to my room to wrap my burned hand and cover up the cut on my back from the belt.

“I have to go.” I said as I grabbed my bag from the table and walked out the door to my red convertible in front of the house.

“Come straight home after school!” He yelled at me as I nodded and drove away.

When I got to school I stayed in the car for a second and took a picture of my back to make sure I covered it okay then went inside where my eyes met my friend Scarlett or Scar for short. “Oh my god Sky, guess what!?” She screamed as she ran up to me.

“What, Scar calm down, damn.” I said holding her still.

“On wednesday we have a party to go to!” She squealed and I fake smiled. There is no way my dad’s gonna let me go so I’m gonna have to take the beating that night.

“Who’s party?” I asked.

“Taylor fucking King!” She squealed again. Oh did I forget to mention she is one of the many girls that has fallen for Taylor King or every girl calls him Mr. Handsome.

“Okay guess we’re going to a party at Handsome’s house then.” I said and this time she just squealed.

“Hey ladies, am I gonna see you at my friend Taylor’s house in two days?” Taylor’s friend Ryan asked as they walked up to us.

“Yeah we’ll be there.” Scarlett said and I nodded.

“Hey, Scar, I’ll be back.” I said then walked into the bathroom to look at the burn on my hand and how bad it is. I unwrapped it and saw my whole palm had a not bad but not good burn mark. I heard someone coming so I grabbed my stuff and ran to a stall and rewrapped my hand before going out there.

“Hey Sky!” My other friend Emma said.

“Hey Emm.” I said then hugged her.

“What happened to your hand?” She asked, pointing at my poorly wrapped hand.

“Oh, umm, let’s just say I’m not the best cook.” I said with a nervous chuckle.

“Umm, okay.” She said before I walked out of the bathroom and to my first class, but got stopped by Jacob.

“Damn it!” I said before turning to look back at him. This kid is so fucking persistant to be with me, it’s so damn anoying. “Hey Jacob.” I said and he blushed when I said his name.

“You know my name?” He asked, still blushing while I nodded.

“Since ninth grade when you started to follow me around.” I said wishing to leave.

“Well, I brought you a coffee and some chocolates.” He said handing me a coffee and a big heart of chocolates.

“Okay I have to go to class though.” I said as I turned to walk away.

“Oh, let me walk you to class.” He said and I fake smiled.

“No, that’s okay, I want to go alone.” I said and he nodded and I walked away.
