A New Beginning

Iris

As I pack my final bag, I could hear my mom shouting for me to come downstairs. I hurried to grab my stuff before coming to my bedroom door and with one final glance. I peer into my bare room remembering all the memories I had in it, hearing my mom calling for me again, I got out of my trance and opened the door and quickly ran down the stairs.

"There you are, I've been calling for you to come down here for the last five minutes!" My mother grumbled at me. Her greying, fiery red hair and forest green eyes, you could tell she was always a beautiful woman that always got her way and never had the patience for nonsense, especially for important events and today is one of those as I'm going to college.

"I'm sorry, I was trying to pack as quickly as I could." I looked up at my mother to find her sighing at me.

"Well hurry up now, we don't have all day and put on your sunglasses please."She mumbled.

We went outside and my mother locked the door to the house behind us. My father was waiting outside with his tall, glaring demeanor. I always find a way to upset them somehow. I never knew why. I've always been top of my classes, never broken any of their rules. It was all to make them happy, but I still get a sigh and a glare. What am I doing wrong?

"Come on! We have to be there within two hours!" My father gruffly yelled out. I got in the blue Mercedes and my father turned the car on driving away from our small house. All the houses in my neighborhood looked the same. They had the same white paint and white picket fences. They never had anything different about them, even the flowers in the gardens were the same.

We arrived at the gate of the neighborhood. The guard letting us pass. I never knew why we needed one of those. I always thought it was normal. I did notice, however the scowl on his face when he saw me.

Everyone in my neighborhood gave me a look of hatred and I never knew why. I did look a little different from everyone else. My parents said I was albino and it was a condition I've had since birth. I don't know if that was the reason or not because I never knew anything about the people who glared, so they couldn't have hated me for anything, but my looks. That's probably why my mother made me put on my sunglasses because my condition gives me red eyes and she told me it was bad luck for people to look at them. I always obeyed it.

When driving through the mountains, everything seemed so quiet and peaceful, I never wanted to look away from the trees even if it seemed like blur, we finally made it to the university. I got out of the car and made my way to the trunk to get my stuff. All the while I felt like I was being watched. I went to look up only to find nothing, so I went about my business. My father helped me carry the rest into my dorm and without a word he put his hand out for me to shake. He always did this when we said goodbye. My father was never a hugging type. I shaked his hand and he gave me a nod and left the room. My mother gave me a hug and a kiss before leaving me to my thoughts. I'm alone I guess, until I heard the door opening again to find another girl moving in and I never seen anyone like her.

She had black hair and dark makeup, black clothing and big chunky boots. She was shuffling into the room with a big box full of things. She plopped it onto the floor before huffing and mumbling "This really wasn't a good idea to wear these shoes today."

I laughed before quickly covering my mouth from embarrassment. She looked up at me and gave me a look I've never seen before. Curiosity.

"Wow you look fucking cool!" She said in excitement.

That statement shocked me, since I thought otherwise."Really? I've never heard that before. I've only ever gotten glares." I said with a hint of sadness.

"It's alright I'm into to the weird. By the way my name is Raven. What's yours? She said still looking at me in awe.

"My name is Iris." I said

"Well now that we've introduced ourselves. Why are you wearing sunglasses inside?" She laughed.

"Oh, well my mom told me it's bad luck for people to look at my eyes." I said with sadness once again.

"Pft what a load of bullshit. You're just albino. What's so bad about that?" She said sitting in the empty bed on the right side of the room.

"Well I've always just followed their rules. I was never allowed to question."I said

"Hmm, alright well. They aren't here now, so you can take them off." She said staring intently.

"You're right they aren't here, are they?" I took them off without a second thought. My eyes adjusted to the room and it had really pretty lighting coming from the window.

"Alright! Now what do you say we start unpacking." She smiled up at me and I gave one back.

As the night progressed I soon realized Raven had a lot of creepy stuff in that big box. It had skulls, black leather books, she even brought a pet spider. I didn't think we were allowed to even have pets. I didn't question and just sat quietly looking at all her things. She past out a while ago, but I had the urge to use the bathroom. So I quickly, but quietly got up and went outside the dorm and sped to the nearest bathroom. When I soon realized the bathroom was being fixed for repairs and the sign read 'use the boys' luckily it was a one stall bathroom and I could just lock the door. 'They really need to get bigger bathrooms'... I thought to myself. I knew this part of the university wasn't that big and was just an extra to all the other buildings, so not many students lived here, so that could be the case of why they don't put bigger stalls inside, but this was ridiculous. I walked down to the other side of the building being the guys side and went to the bathroom. Luckily no one was in there. So I quickly did my business and washed my hands before quietly stepping out and before I knew it I felt a chest to my face. I looked up and I saw a man, a very good looking man...I don't what came over me, but I couldn't stop staring.

He chuckled...'Wow that was sexy...Iris what the hell are you thinking?!' I quickly snapped out of it and adjusted myself. "Excuse me." I said in a soft voice. I looked up at him and I couldn't read him at all. He had black hair just like raven, but had piercing blue eyes that never left mine.

"Sorry Angel." That was all he said before walking off to what I presume was his dorm. I couldn't help but look at him when he was walking off. He a black loose shirt on with loose red sweatpants. Even with it being loose his muscles were bursting at the seems. I could only tear my eyes away when I realized I have to get up for class early tomorrow.
