Chapter 1
I used to live in an older town back west, that is until my mother came down with an illness and passed just a few months apart from my father's birthday.
I used to pretend to talk with her through my diary, which my brother had bought me a few months after my father's funeral. I would tease him of buying it from the old dusty gift shop just a couple blocks away from our old house, because he hadn't had much money back then. He was only fifteen when he had dropped out of high-school, and couldn't afford getting a job because he had 'other stuff' to worry about. Which definitely wasn't his girlfriend.
We decided as a family to restart, and move into a new house in a new town, because my family did not take my mother's death that well. I wouldn't say that I agreed with that choice entirely, but what could I do? I was only twelve! And I think they could've done better, 'cause now I live with my grandparents, in a tiny little two bedroom house, and I wouldn't even say that the old shak had any wood left on it, because it was covered with vines and mildew. My grandparents had bought a bunch of property along with the house, which pleased my brother and I, so I had to make myself second guess the thought of hating this place. But sometimes at night, as I stare out the window of the room my brother and I share, I see something lurking in the shadows.
