Prologue
THE boy was startled awake by the loud knock on the door of his parents' home. Scared and alone in his room, the boy curled up by his bed side and buried his face between his knees.
Few seconds later, the door to his room creaked open softly and he heard his father's voice from the doorway.
"Do not come out of your room, no matter what you hear."
He lifted his head up and nodded to his father who smiled at him and walked out of the door. He listened to the heavy footfalls of his father as he walked to the door of the house.
The first sound that greeted his ears was that of his mother's shriek which was closely followed by his father's shout and despite his father's warning not to come out his curiosity got the better of him and he crept to the door of his room and cautiously pried the door open and stepped out of the room.
Quietly, he made his way into the dining room where he hid behind one of the dining chairs where he had a view of the living room. At first he didn't understand why his parents were showing signs of fear until he saw the guns in the hands of the two men seated in the living room of his father's house.
He shuddered in fear for his parents but he realized there was nothing he could do to help them so he decided to watch the unusual activity in the living room.
He watched how his mother held tightly onto his father while he spoke in hushed whispers to the two men seated in front of him, he watched when one of the men pointed a gun to his mother's head and how his father begged for mercy, he watched when the man laughed at his father as he pulled the trigger and he held in a gasp as he saw the light in his mother's eyes fade into nothingness and he still watched as the trigger was pulled the second time and his father was shot dead.
