Chapter 1
Eddie Munson, the classic bad boy. The guy who had stayed back a few years in high school. He was the freak; well, at least according to the popular kids. Since I was new to the school everyone had wanted to talk to me for some reason. Since I had moved away at the end of my eighth grade year, my father had gotten a new job and I was practically forced out of here. When he had died my mother thought it would be best to move back to our home town. But none the less I am happy to be back.
These past couple of weeks have been, let's just say different, it honestly hasn't been that bad, really. But I feel as if I don't really fit in with any of the "stereotypes" at this specific school. Sure there was the jocks, nerds, freaks, metal heads, but in all of those categories I don't fit one perfectly. Sure it would be easier to just pretend to be someone I'm not. However this school was supposed to be something different. A fresh start if you will. But in the middle of the year? It feels like my mom was basically setting me up to fail.
Since I've arrived here. I have had my eye out for Eddie. Honestly I have no clue why. I feel like he is just different from everyone else. In a good way I mean. Well according to everyone he's different in a bad way. But honestly how can you judge someone before you really get to know them? It really is difficult, we both have classes together. Most of my classes he's in them as well. Apparently he's a third year senior. Which for me is fine. Just how can someone just keep repeating the same classes over and over again you know? Personally it sounds absolutely dreadful. But hey whatever works for you works.
I had just finished cleaning my room when I heard a knock on the door, "Come in"
My mom walked in, "Hey, Becca it's getting pretty late. Don't forgot you have school tomorrow. Don't forget to take the car when you go ok?"
I sighed realizing that it was already 11 and I had school in eight hours, " Yeah mom don't worry I won't forget." She smiled and walked towards the door, "Ok then. Goodnight. Get some rest." I changed into a pair of shorts and a Metallica shirt and headed to bed. It's been honestly a rough week.
<~
"Becca! Wake up you're gonna be late for school!" I heard my mom yell. I quickly jumped out of bed and ran over to my closet. Shit I slept through my alarm. Thankfully I still had 20 minutes until I had to drive myself. Usually I like to get up a bit early so I can listen to my vinyls while I do my makeup. But today was not the day for that. I picked out a pair of black jeans, a AC/DC shirt and grabbed my belt and quickly changed. I grabbed my hair brush and combed it out as fast as I can. I grab my eyeliner and went over to the mirror. And put eyeliner on my waterline and smudged it. I put some on my eyelid and smudged it as well. I took a look in the mirror, well I guess it'll do for today.
I went over to my rolling tray; grabbed some of my rings and put them on. Yes I know this isn't usually the proper use of it but hey it works. I look at the time and I had about five minutes until I had to leave. I quickly put on my combat boots and called it a day. I grabbed my car keys and left.
When I arrived at school. It was the same old shit I've been dealing with since I've moved back here. When I pulled in I saw Eddie getting out of his car. Honestly he looked as relaxed as ever. I honestly don't think he gives a shit anymore. Honestly neither do I. I turned off the car, grabbed my keys and put them in my bag. I got out of the car and shut the car door. While walking towards the school. My first class today was physics. I honestly have no idea why I decided to take a science my final year but if it makes me look good for colleges so be it. I walked over to my desk and took out my notebook, it was going to be a long day.
<~
It's now lunch period. Thankfully my class is an art so I can pretty much do whatever for the remainder of class. Usually I skip it and go to my car for the class. But now they won't even let us do that anymore. Honestly I don't know why, the school administration is so fucked. My next class was pre-calculus, I hated this class with all my being. This was one of the many classes I had with Eddie. Which I cannot say I'm happy to have him in it.
I heard a yelling from another lunch table I picked my head up and there was Eddie standing on the table, "A game where you toss balls into laundry baskets!" I saw Jason get up from his seat, "You want something freak?"
Eddie started to make this devilish face. Honestly it was pretty funny. This guy really thinks he's the best thing around. The bell rang it was time for last period. I grabbed my bag and headed to pre-calculus. This class was honestly the worst out of all my other classes. I mean do we honestly need math in the future? Probably not.
I sat down at my seat, pulled out my notebook. There was a problem on the board for us to start with. For some reason teachers really feel the need to be giving us more work than what we signed up for. I feel someone poke my back, I turned around. It was Eddie, "Hey. Uh Rebecca right?"
I nodded, "Do you have a pencil I can borrow?" Did this guy have anything other than he's theatrics, "Sure." I reached down into my bag and grabbed one, "Here. You can keep it if you want. I have plenty." He smiled, "Thank you,um by any chance do you have an extra piece of paper. I forgot my book at home." Is he serious?
"We'll since you need it." I ripped a couple pages out of my notebook so he wouldn't have to keep asking me for paper. "You're a life saver."
" Yeah I'm sure Ms.Smith would be pleased to see you without anything for her class. Honestly do you ever bring stuff to school?"
He shook his head, "Nope just myself." Of course he didn't.
I turned back around to try to solve this problem. This class seemed to be a bit more difficult than the one I was taking at my previous school. Now I'm wishing that I hadn't switched schools. I missed my friends from my old school. Usually when someone leaves you never hear from those people ever again. Which so far was coming to be the truth. Honestly it sucked.
After finishing problems and taking notes the bell finally rang. I picked up my stuff and walked out the door. I didn't want to go home yet, so I decided to walk behind the school and into the woods. Which was a pretty nice walk. I couldn't see the school anymore. It seems like no one comes out over here. I pulled out my pack of Marlboro Lights, I pulled out my lighter. I was about to light it when I heard a loud creak. I jumped and threw the cigarette on the ground. I turned around and saw the one and only Eddie Munson.
"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you." He looked me up and down, "You okay?"
I put my hand over my chest,"Yeah. You just scared the shit out of me. What are you doing out here?"
He laughed, "I could ask you the same question. No one ever comes out here."
"Really? Why is there a picnic table out in the middle of the woods?" I walked over the the table and sat down, "Honestly I have no idea. I have always been coming out here. Don't worry you're safe. No one ever really does unless you're looking for something. Are you looking for something?" He sat down across from me.
"Do you ever feel like you're losing your mind?"
He smiled, "Yeah you know, just on a daily basis." I laughed, "Well that's how I feel right now."
I was a bit on edge, I guess it's because me and him have never really had a conversation, "I was looking for something to take me off edge you know? To calm me down."
"I think I have the perfect thing." He pulled out a lunch box, "You know we really don't have to do this. Just give me the word and I'll walk away like nothing happened." I was a bit nervous to see what he was going to pull out of the box.
When I looked inside it looked like. Weed? I guess that'll work, "Yes that'll be perfect. How much is it?" He looked down, "Uh well since you've already charmed me. By the way it works. Cash only and for obvious reasons no receipts. I'll give you the bag which is half an ounce for about fifth teen. You're robbing me blind you know."
I looked in my bag I always keep cash on me. You never know when you'll need it and I guess today was the day to use it,"Okay. Thank you."
He smiled, "No problem. Hey uh did we go to middle school together?"
Oh shit. I had completely forgot about that, "Uh yeah I believe so. I honestly forgot about mostly everything here when I moved away."
He sighed, "Yeah well I don't blame you. This place is a shit hole."
"Hey I also have a question."
"What is it?" How do I say this. Im gonna sound like a complete idiot, "Yeah um I really don't know how to roll well. So could you. I don't know teach me?" His eyes lit up, "Of course! I love teaching people how to do this." He grabbed some papers out of the box, "So what you do is." He started to grab some from the bag and put it on the paper, "Then you roll it. Next you just lick here. And continue to roll it as tight as you want it to be and then." It was practically perfect, "You're all done. See wasn't that hard."
"Yeah sorry I just don't usually have to do this sort of stuff. I would have one of my friends do it for me."
"Well a pretty girl like you shouldn't be rolling your own joints." Did he just, say that out loud? His face flashed a bright red, "Shit. Sorry didn't mean to-"
I waved him off, "Oh no it's okay. Don't worry about it." I looked over at the joint, "Can I?" He handed it over to me, I grabbed my lighter and lit the joint. Taking a long drag. I blew out the smoke and passed it over to him.
He took the joint a took a quick puff, letting the smoke fall out of his mouth "Becca I had a question for you."
"Yeah?"
"You don't remember me much from middle school right?" To be honest, no but I really didn't want to say that, "I'm sorry Eddie no I really don't. But to be fair my memory is pretty bad."
"Well." He stood up, "I had buzzed hair, I was in my band-" and suddenly it hit me, "Corroded Coffin!" He clapped his hands together, "Corroded coffin." I laughed, "With a band name like that how could I forget."
"We'll when you have a bad memory." He gestured his hand towards me, "You forget the little things." I laughed, "Well I'm sorry about it. Not like I can control what I can and cannot remember."
"Hey Eddie you played guitar right?" He smiled, "Still do.... Still do."
"You'll have to teach me sometime. I've always wanted to learn how. It's just so confusing."
"Well only at first. Once you get the basics down then after that it is just memorization. Which now is where I see the problem." I tilted my head in confusion, "You're bad memory."
"Oh right. I was gonna say I forgot but that would just add fuel to the fire." He smiled, "Becca do you want to. I don't know sit with me and my friends tomorrow a lunch? Whenever I've seen you you've always been by yourself. So it's just and offer if you don't want to you don't have-" I cut him off, "No, it's ok. Yeah sure I'll join you guys tomorrow Eddie." I looked at my watch it was almost 3:30 my mom get home at four.
"Shit sorry Eddie I've had such a nice time but I've got to go my mom get home soon."
He frowned more with his eyes than his mouth, "Oh it's alright. You got strict parents?"
I was a bit thrown off by the question, "I mean no not really-"
He sat back down, "Then why don't you stay a bit longer? Only if you want to of course." I debated whether or not to stay, I mean would my mom really be all that mad? Probably not, "Alright I'll stay for a bit longer but if I get grounded then it's on you." He laughed, "Well that's fine. As long as you don't get in trouble. I can be a bad influence."
I scoffed, "You? A bad influence? I honestly would've never guessed."
"What was your new school like? Like how different was it from here?" I honestly had to think about it a lot. I mean every school is different right?
"Yeah well um, you know a new school is always difficult in the beginning. But after the first few months you kind of get the hang of it? Like how here we have the 'stereotypes' at this school it was the same. Just here I don't feel like I belong in a place. Whereas there I felt like I belonged." His entire mood had shifted, really taking in every detail I was telling.
"Honestly it sounds stupid I know."
He disagreed, "No actually it makes sense. When you leave a place for a while then come back it's like nothings the same. It's like time moved on without you."
I finally realized he understood what I was talking about, "Yeah. Like when I left I felt like everything would be the same, if I ever came back. I never had thought about coming back but I didn't want to leave. However life moves on with or without you. That's the sad part."
He took a deep breath, "No it's not sad. It's just the way the world works. Which sucks but hey what can you do about it." I looked down at my watch, it was 4:15. Shit I needed to get home before my mom sends police looking for me, "Shit sorry Eddie I have to go." He played with his rings, "Oh that's fine. But uh do you want to tomorrow after school, I don't know want me to teach you how to play guitar?"
I was honestly excited I've always wanted to learn, "Sure that'll be good. Do you want me to meet you out here or?"
"No. I can meet you at the doors of the school and you can just follow my car. Don't worry I'll make sure you don't get lost."
"Ok then so I'll see you tomorrow at lunch and after school?" He smiled, "Sure Becca." I waved him a quick goodbye and basically sprinted towards my car. My mom wouldn't probably be too mad. Well at least I hoped.

When I got home as soon as I opened the door my mom was already waiting for me. It's not like it's late at night so honestly I'm not sure why she would care.
"Where were you Rebecca."
I put down my bag and closed the door, "Sorry I was talking with a friend and we lost track of time." She sighed and crossed her arms, "Well if you would've told me I won't be like this."
"How was I supposed to tell you? I was just outside talking with him and we got a bit side tracked I'm sorry it won't happen again."
She tilted her head, "Oh so it was a boy." I rolled my eyes, "Mom I swear it's nothing like that. We only have a few classes together and we just started talking. There's no reason to make a big deal out of this."
She flew her hands in the air, "Oh well I'm sorry for miss judging this little friend of yours."
I tried to make this best out of this, "I'll just let you know next time. I'm sorry and also me and him are hanging out after school tomorrow. Just so you know."
"This boy. Is he cute?" I grabbed my bag and went to my room. This woman I swear to god, "I'll take that as a yes." I heard her say and I went up the stairs. Honestly this woman is crazy. I opened the door to my room, and quickly closed it behind me. I sat down at my desk, I needed to get this pre-calculus done. Since I didn't have her class tomorrow it would be easier if I just get it done now.
Procrastinating is one of my biggest downfalls, like sure the work that I turn in is good but it could be so much better. That's the problem I don't know why I procrastinate so much.
After what seemed like forever, I looked over at the clock and it was 9:30. I had been doing this homework for too long. I went over to my dresser and grabbed a t-shirt and shorts, changed. Brushed my hair out. I left my room and walked towards the bathroom. I removed whatever was left of my eyeliner and brushed my teeth. When I was done I turned off the faucet went back into my room and climbed into bed. Tomorrow was gonna be a long day.
After a while I finally drifted into sleep.
