A moody monsoon day. Sun was going to set beyond the horizon. One can feel the chilled wind and the smell of slightly wet green field which was due to the drizzle from a floating cloud, may be carrying message for someone at far...in love.

It’s Bhubaneswar...

The city of temples, holding faith and pride. Breath-taking heights of buildings and eye catching lights in night. Roads and people are always busy here. It’s all normal for a smart City, the capital of Odisha. But might be few people are aware of it’s actual beauty.

ASHISH is one of them...

An introvert college guy. Living alone on rent in Patia. One can rarely see him free. So what he does? He is a full-time- OVERTHINKER. Sounds funny?

Just like any other days after class he was sitting on his arm chair, whose one arm was broken, in front of the window, his usual place to overthink.

A sharp reddish orange light entering the room piercing the horizon, atmosphere, clouds, dust, leaves and the grills and net of the window. The weather itself was already romantic making an overthinker’s heart and mind to dive in to the world of thoughts and imagination.

Ashish who was a bachelor of 20 and eagerly waiting for a girl in his life to share his long treasured feelings, precious as emeralds from the heart of the mountains. But along with the nature he also felt that romance and love for someone, someone non-existent, pure imagination. These feelings were obvious for him and made his heart quite heavier than his heart when he saw DISHA for the first time, entering into the class as a new comer and sat next to him, exchanged names and shook hand. That was so quick. Quick as lightning and lightened his heart in those fraction of time. Though the feelings were quite similar on their first meet and on present day but this time those feelings were for none. It was all because of his emptiness from depth of his heart and it was not so unfamiliar to him. He sometimes found himself lost in such dreams of a imaginary beauty. Soothing music and pleasant essence, spending time with her, holding her soft hands, lying on the nature beyond the reach of time, stress and worry and eyes full of untold words. Some words containing promises and few words of pure love and care.

Now he was standing at the door to enter into the world of thoughts. He could feel the vast see of romance and warm shore of love. But it seems as something was holding him from back, not giving permission to enter in. Oh! It was his heart, his empty heart. Only thing he needed that time was someone to relay on, someone who can complete his thoughts. At that time nature played it’s role in a miraculous way. A gust of chilled wind entered into his room through the window and turned the page of his English copy, which was lying on the table, in front of the window placed between the free space of window and his armed chair. The pages were started turning as if they got new life and in few seconds that life was gone. But this time the copy was lying with it’s open pages holding something special between them. A group photo copy of students of his department. Suddenly he woke up from his thoughts by the sound of flapping pages. His eyes fell on that picture. In his quick glance his eyes stuck somewhere on that photo. It was him and Disha standing together.

A sudden current passed through his body, heart and mind (Goosebumps…).Now he got the reason to overthink. He got that someone whom his heart was asking for. It was dancing in joy remembering that day of photograph, the college function day, where Disha came to campus in a deep blue saree with yellowish golden floral works on it. She was looking most gorgeous that day. Her open hair, her small jhumkas, eyes in kajal, cute pinkish lips, blushing cheeks and those little but remarkable dimples, he can remember everything. Those memories are enough to make his whole day joyful. With these sweet memories once again he commenced his ride, only ups no downs, to the door where he was standing alone with his empty heart previous time. But this time he got her. May be in reality she just likes him as a close friend… but he never let such doubts to ruin his dream.

Now the door was opened and they entered into the world of dream. A whole different universe and dimension with different space, time, matter and laws than our actual world. His mind was the Almighty controller of that world. As they entered in they were assigned to their respective rolls in that world. The time, place and every other things were changed accordingly by his mind.

The place where they stood was changed dramatically into Mumbai, the film City. Ashish and Disha turned 25 and 24 respectively. He became a successful business man and Disha was a doctor in a private hospital of Mumbai. Though a long time interval had passed but they had managed to keep their friendship. Not only just staying in friendship but also they improved it in those past years. In their busy schedule whenever they get a chance they go on a movie or road side fast-food shop.

From just friends in college to actual besties they had gone so far. Now they were going to level up their friendship. How? So it was the day of lights. Actually it sounds better with night of lights. Let it that’s not our topic. So it was Diwali. Ashish took Disha to his place and it was her first visit. Ashish also never took any girl to his place before. So it was an awkward situation for both of them. His mother welcomed her warmly. Though his mom had never seen Disha before but she had heard of her many times from Ashish and told him to bring her home. They were sitting in the balcony enjoying the lights, candles & diyas, crackers, fireworks, fried potatoes and cookies with lots of gossip. During their gossip…

she asked eagerly “Aunty, why there is no rangoli?”

“Actually I don’t know how to make one,” aunty replied.

“It’s very simple, let me draw one please” she asked with a lot of joy.

Aunty was unable to deny her request. In few minutes a beautiful rangoli was there on their veranda. Then for few more minutes they talked about Ashish’s childhood and at last they placed a sky lantern together. By the time of placing it he was only begging for her hand to the God. After that day when Ashish with his family visited to their native, Bhubaneswar, they also visited Disha’s house. Her parents are quite friendly and talkative in nature. So it took no time to their family to become friends. After few such more visits their families also became good friends. They started celebrating festivals and occasions together. Once Disha’s family also visited Ashish’s house at Mumbai during summer vacation. But after all non of their family members ever thought of them, more than friends.

11 June, 11:00pm. Coming day is Ashish’s birthday. He was at party in his office with his friends and other staffs. Atmosphere there was little unhealthy for a boy like Ashish, who never drinks or smokes. With every passing minutes party was going even crazier. All were enjoying but he was waiting for her call. The clock rang ‘dong…’ with the poping sound of opening champagne. All were shouting and wishing Ashish very happy birthday. (Default ringtone of iphone…) Finally the call came which he was waiting for. The call from Disha. He received it and said “hello” with adjusting his pitch. She wished her a happy birthday and told him to come and visit her asap. She had a surprise for him, something special. After hearing this his happiness got no bound. He cut the cake and celebrated for few more time at office. As the party was over he quickly headed towards her house with an excitement because they never celebrated his birthday together.

20 minutes of ride. He reached at her place where she stays with her bhaiya and bhabi. He rang the bell at ground floor. Fortunately her bhaiya and bhabi were not there. They had gone to Odisha for some days and she was staying alone.

With a slight delay the door of first floor was opened and the staircase got little exposure by the lights inside the room and that exposure also gone with the closing door. It was 12:30am. Outside was more darker that day than it used to be. He was standing with nervousness and excitement. As she stepped down on the staircase he saw her face in that dim light. It was glowing like moon in the darkness. She wore a deep blue saree very similar to the saree she wore on college function. She dressed up exactly as the function day. Her open hair was just complementing her look. Only difference this time was she looked prettier this time. She was like the finest wine, getting better with age. It was harder to see the shades of her lips but it was totally out of consent as her smile has the power to get all the focus. As she coming downstairs, the yellowish footlight falling on the saree and her foot from downside creating an illusion of an angel coming down from Heaven to Earth. She came near to him and wished him for his birthday but he was lost in his dreams, unable to hear anything. She shook his hand and asked what happened with a blush on her face. Then he woke up from his dream. She once again wished him with a frim handshake. Her hands were cold this time. She requested him to follow her to the roof. They reached at roof and he saw her effort to decorate that place and thanked her for this beautiful arrangement. A soothing lofi music was playing in the background. 2 chairs are there at the corner of the roof. A table was at the middle with a cake on it and some twinkling lights glowing with their utmost energy but producing a little light. The place was actually brighten by the moon and starts stretched along the cloudless night sky. He could feel the mild perfume of her.

They cut the cake together and enjoyed it. After celebrating they sat on the chairs at the corner of the roof where it was little gloomy than rest of the roof. Looking at the starry sky they talked for a while about their college days.

It was 1:30am. He asked for her permission for a departure. An unremarkable sadness ran over her face. She nodded and led him all the way to downstairs. He opened the door of his g-wagon but all suddenly he heard the fainted voice of her calling him. He looked back and saw her eyes glazing with tears when the moonlight falling on them. He flashed to her and asked the reason. She told nothing and slowly started wiping like child. To comfort her he put his hand on her shoulder and asked what happened. But this time something unexpected happened. She Hugged him tightly her head was on his shoulder. Tears were making his shirt wet. With a lot of hesitation he put his hand around her and asked to share if there was any problem.

A few seconds of silence. They both could hear the sound of rustling leaves on the tree by blowing of wind. Finally she murmured “I LO………

‘Tring tring- tring tring’ the high pitch sound of his semi broken alarm clock, placed on the table. A sudden blow of his hand with irritation stopped that noise, may be stopped for ever. He was looking at his surroundings as he is an alien. It was 7:00pm in the real world.

“Ahh! F*ck man! again late today” he shouted in irritation.

He found that once again he was overthinking but it felt like more realistic this time as the details in his dream were quite remarkable. He got up quickly from his chair, washed his face, put on the shirt and combed his hair. In front of the mirror while adjusting his hair he felt the sadness of his heart as the dream remained incomplete. He tried to cheer up his heart by telling that she was actually going to tell him ‘I love you’ that time. Though he confessed his heart but deep down from his mind he knew that she would never gonna be the girlfriend of someone like him, who had no looks no money. It was all just his own thoughts. With these random thoughts he put on his slippers closed the door and started towards his coaching centre.

It was dark outside. After few minutes of walk along the road he disappeared in the darkness of the evening with his heart full of darkness.

The end

(Now it’s upon you to think next with your perspective… , may be that dream was actually his future and his brain wanted to show it to him. that’s totally up to you…)
