Summary

Just a short piece of descriptive writing, which came about whilst watching a variety show at my university. It concerns a theatre society member who took my breath away in my first year of university; I saw all of the shows put on by the society and in the final show of the year, he got a solo.

Chapter 1

Amidst the dark, I make out the silhouette of the single performer on stage: it’s him. Pride wells up within me and my breath hitches in anticipation as I wait for him to start.

As soon as the spotlight hits him, my eyes dart straight to the white cast on his right arm. Immediately, I know what this is.

I notice the tears pooling around his eyes, sparkling in the spotlight. I question if the tears are part of the act or raw emotion. I’m moved either way.

He’s going to go far. I know it.

I’ve seen him in all of his shows this year. His potential was clear to me from his very first show, even before he was given a leading role - and he is here with a solo. Look at him go. I’m eager to see what he does next with his talents.
