Nicholai 6 months earlier----

My body doubled over in pain, and I felt a snap! She was gone, my beautiful mate that I never got to love was gone from this world. I shifted ran into the woods beside the lake, howling in pain letting her and the Moon Goddess know that I miss her.

~Present Day~

Asking Xander to check out his she-wolves is risky or even weird, but I am desperate to find my second chance mate and get on with my life....

Nicholai was very close to Xander as they ran in the same circles growing up and then working in their Alpha roles. "Xander, can we go for a walk?" "Sure, Nick." They headed into the woods and stopped by the lake. "What can I do for you Nick?" Nicholai hemmed and hawed around, "spit it out Nick." "I need to go through your pack and see if my second chance mate is here. Would that be agreeable?" Xander pondered the request. "I suppose that it would be permissible, however, we need to do it, so the women don't feel like they are being judged or put-on display in an unfavorable light. How about we hold a Mating Ball? We have many more people here but not a lot of women. There are unmated females in my pack, and you never know what rank your future Luna would come from. The Goddess works in mysterious ways." "Yes, she does. The Ball sounds wonderful, if you would permit it, I will invite the unmated females from my pack. There will be more males around here than at home.' "They are welcome to come, I will inform Jordan and we will get this show on the road." "Thank you, Xander, I just need to find her, I feel so incomplete." "I know my friend; I felt a part of me was missing until I found Jordan again." "Again, what do you mean again?" "I knew she was my mate when I was young; I was waiting for her to grow up and then she moved, and I could not find her until she showed up in the forest with the rogue." "Like you said, the Goddess works in mysterious ways." They walked back to the pack house and into the den or community room. Jordan was holding court with Tatiana, Josephine and Lainy, chatting like a bunch of hens, smiles were given all around. "Good morning, ladies," said Xander. "Good morning, Alpha." "What are your plans for the next few days?" "Well, I will have to ask Augustine if he has any pressing matters that require him to return right away. Why?" asked Luna Josephine. Tatiana and Lainy said they were free. "Well, I know Jordan that I have not discussed it with you but, Alpha Nicholai would like to look for his second chance mate and a Mating Ball would work nicely and be festive for all. What do you think?" She smiled, "I think that is a great idea after all that misery that we have just gone through. What do you need me to do, love?" "Well, the organization overall, I can assist anywhere you need me too." Jordan let out a large sigh, "That is a lot of work Xander, and I tire easily with the pups." "We can help you!" said Lainy, Tatiana and Josephine. "Augustine will just have to work remote for a while," Josephine laughed. "How lovely, how do we start?" Xander cut in, "Nicholai is inviting all his unmated females to join us here, will that be enough with our unmated females as to the number of males on the compound property?" "I believe that will be enough I am just worried that Nicholai may not find his mate here, I don't want him to hurt any more than he does right now." "Aw, babygirl, he just needs to make something happen and not sit and brood on it."

"Okay, Nick, we will do this so please invite your women to come, let us hold it this Saturday; I know it is short notice but sooner rather than later is better, I have a good feeling about it." "Okay Luna, I will mindlink my Delta and have them travel here. Will there be enough rooms?" "Yes, Alpha Claude and Alpha Isaiah just left with their members, so those rooms are vacated." "Good then I will leave you to it, if you need me to do anything, please let me know since I was the one that asked in the first place." "Oh, you can bet on it!" He left to go to his team that was there along with checking on the couples. Alpha Sanders, Ross and Lange opted to depart as they had pressing matters at the home packs that needed addressed, that opened up even more space for the girls. Alpha Remy and Alpha Stark opted to stay and invite their unmated females and Remy invited about 50 unmated males to come also. This would even out the numbers and allow for more mingling. Nicholai would have more to go through to find his second chance mate. The women brainstormed and felt a summer barbeque would be what was asked for; this way no one person would be put out to buy any new clothes for the meet and greet. The start of the event would be at 2:00PM with acquiring name tags, ages were not a problem as mating could be between anyone of any age over 18. Jordan knew of a great band that played all genres of music, she was best friends with the lead singer, Natalie Kinski; they went to college together, her band would be among the few humans to be invited. Natalie and her group knew about the wolves as Jordan insisted, she know and Xander relented with vows of secrecy. Angelica from the boutique in Alpine Village would also be invited, she knows who and what they are.

Tables were not a problem, red and white checkered clothes were in storage, don't know when they were used last, but they are in good condition. Now for the food, they talked about having the guys dig fire pits and roast whole hogs, that would be the most economical and involve the men in the process, they all slyly smiled at that thought. When asked, the Alphas and Betas volunteered to dig the pits. They would have all the fixins, Ms. Ladoux cloistered herself into the kitchen with Rebecca and Maria, the plan was solidified, they had plenty for the whole weekend for everyone. "Okay ladies, let's go to the village and see if we can find decorations. I am thinking mason jars with tea lights and flower wreaths around them. What do you think?" "Elegant but understated, just the right mix of both and the women will appreciate the work that went into them. Maybe we can give them away by table, put their names in a hat and make it fair for all." "Sounds great." The men got right on the task of digging the pits. They would need to have the hogs in tomorrow and bake in the earth all day Friday until 5:00PM Saturday. The men would then dig them up and set them on the respective tables in the food line so they can be cut into, and meat scooped out.

The women were in route from the packs in attendance, they would be here tonight, Thursday evening. We would have activities tonight and tomorrow night. Several mated Omegas offered to serve the meals so that was covered, tonight's meal was buffet style and then picnic style on blankets under the night sky. Xander would do introductions to our pack compound and let them know where all the unmated wolves came from, there were just fun games played by all in small groups that rotated. The rotation elicited the ability for each member to meet as many available mates as possible. Friday went about the same way with tug of war and water gun fights, all in all a good day.
