INTRODUCTION

REMOVE THE JEAN

Everyone has a job regardless if they chose to believe it or not. It doesn’t matter if you are idle, disabled or crazy, as long as you breathe and fathom the zest to wake up then you are a conqueror! My job is complicated, easy and yes relatively insane although l didn’t chose it for myself. You see when l was young my father used to beat us severely. He beat us to an extent that we didn’t fear the pain anymore but who was going to die first? Unfortunately my twin brother didn’t live beyond his childhood. It was just like any other day were we could just be kicked on the nuts until we were unconscious. Yes! You heard that right, literally kicked on the nuts. My father believed that in order to gain true command of a man you had to belittle and crush his manhood then in that moment you would rule him! So just like other days, he kicked my twin for not feeding the dogs in time and as usual he fell down head first onto the floor unconscious and that was it! We woke up 3 days later pouring ash to his grave and to the pastor talking about him as if he knew him well enough. Mom was broken, to her this was just another day and another meal were the neighborhood just gathers together to eat lunch and endorse a mystical culture. She didn’t cry for her son nor did my father. They just shook everyone’s hand who carried a tissue and wept more for their own blood than they could.

l cried unceasingly not only because l had lost a brother and my only friend but because l had become the only kicking bag! On the months and years that followed l was abused ten times worse than l had ever been. You might wonder how on earth something like this happens but believe me knowledge is indeed power and sometimes we are indoctrinated by an evil that consumes us until it’s too late to see any light,or atleast l thought! Born and bred in a remote rural area, the culture and beliefs here were far from modern. A man literally ruled his kingdom and no one dared to second guess his desires and decisons. So when our father beat us and killed my twin, the community shrugged it off and said the boy was a weakling ! There was no abuse of power or any of those human rights laws, just a man and what he owned. Everyone was an asset of a masculine culture that only trained men one thing only, to do as they pleased! I learnt from this and mastered it from my ” sensei”. When l turned 18 my father became very ill and was bed ridden for a while.

He would scream and moan in pain but l didn’t care l wished l could increase it even more if l had the powers. So when he begged me to get his medication l told him ” to remove the jean” and himself in the nuts if he wanted to get better and that very night he died. l didn’t wait for anyone to give me my freedom or sugar coat a burial to bury a monster. I left the monster’s wife to bury her beast, after all, she indeed loved him enough to cry for him but not even a single tear drop for her own son! When l left,l didn’t look back nor have mixed feelings or doubts about my choice or actions. l knew l was going to the big city,to real life and a land of boundless possibilities but my upbringing had enslaved me to a job and disease that l had never thought l would have. As l arrived in the city and saw the big lights, the first person l saw was a lady who wore a jean and my job immediately began!
