Chapter 1

Olivia

Hunter: Come to my place today.

Four years into this relationship and that was all he said to me. I sighed, reading the message. It's been a year now that he didn't call me "babe" anymore. He only did during sex. I loved Hunter deeply but I felt neglected. When I told him about it, he just brushed it off. I didn't know how long I would be taking this. He used to be so sweet to me but now... It felt like I was habit.

I put on a white summer dress, tied my strawberry blonde hair in a ponytail, put some light make-up on, sandals and left my parents' house. I took my small car out of the garage and drove to his parents' house.

We grew up in this small town together, have known each other since kindergarten but started dating in High School. I knew all his family, his parents were doctors and his brother was a captain for the firefighters. I knew that Hunter wanted to be a doctor to take over his parents' officina and I encouraged him through it. I, on the other hand, wanted to be a teacher.

Hunter and I were going to the same university but we weren't following the same classes at all. When he started getting distant, I asked him if it was because he met someone else but he assured me that it wasn't the case. It was running through my head all the time and I hoped that he would open up now that we were on summer holidays.

I drove three streets away from my house to arrive to the long modern house of the Red's. I noticed a car parked there that I had never seen before, a black SUV. Could it be Logan's car?

In four years of relationship with Hunter, I had never seen Logan before. He was ten years older than us so he never even was at school with us and he started working as a firefighter almost after he graduated from High School. Hunter was very fond of his brother but his work prevented us from ever meeting, maybe that was about to change.

I got out of the car and rang the bell. Hunter came to open the door and his dark brown eyes softened slightly when he saw me. I could not help a smile, even if we weren't as we used to be, I still loved him and he still made my heart race.

"Hey there." He greeted me, leaning into me to lay a small kiss on my lips.

"Hi." I answered with a stupid smile on my face. "You wanted to see me."

"Yes." He confirmed, letting me in. "I wanted to spend the afternoon with you. We couldn't very much meet lately and I missed you."

"Really?" I asked, surprised. It was true that I barely could get a hold of him since we came back here for the holidays. He never told me what he was doing but I just assumed he wanted to spend some time with his family.

"Don't be so surprised." He chuckled. "I'll tell you everything, I promise."

I sighed internally because I knew that he wouldn't. Hunter was many thing but he loved his secrets above all. I usually had to be really patient before he would tell me anything.

He led me to the living room and I noticed that it was empty. There was a car though even if his parents weren't there.

"What's that face?" He asked, amused.

"I noticed there was a car I didn't know parked in front of your house so I wondered if your parents changed it." I answered.

"Nope, that's Logan's. He's here for a few days before getting back to the city. It's so rare when he's on vacations that he comes to visit our parents."

I knew it. It meant that Logan was here so we weren't totally alone. Hunter pulled me into his arms and like always, I couldn't focus anymore. He was built nicely for someone who didn't train that much but it seemed that muscles were a natural thing in this family because even his father, Leon, was built.

Hunter was tall at 1m88 with the body of a professional swimmer. His messy light brown hair got a honey shade today, meaning that he spent some time in the sun. He was beautiful but it was his smarts who made me agree to date him.

"Are you worried that he's going to walk in on us?" He asked low.

"I never met him so yes." I pouted because he was clearly teasing me.

"Let's go to my room. He's not in the house right now, if that reassures you." He chuckled.

I nodded and he took my hand in his to lead me upstairs. All the bedrooms were there and I knew that there also was a bathroom. When Logan wasn't here, it was Hunter's entirely. Their parents had their own.

Hunter's room didn't change from the last time I saw it. It was still painted a navy blue where the bed was and the other walls were white. There was a desk, a TV and a walk-in closet. One side opened on a balcony and that was it. The desk was full of papers, meaning that my boyfriend did work a bit.

"Do you want something to drink?" He asked as he closed the door behind us.

"No, I'm good." I declined, shaking my head.

He moved closer and pulled me back into his arms to kiss me. It was as sweet as all our kisses but I knew by the way he pressed his body to mine that he wanted more. I didn't mind, we fit and I missed him too.

He started lifting my dress up when there was a knock on the door. I jolted and so did he. How did we not hear his brother coming upstairs? That was freaky.

Hunter went to open the door while I readjusted my dress. Behind the door, stood an older version of Hunter except that his eyes were hazel green. His light brown hair were shorter but they also had that honey shade. He was taller than his brother and more muscled. He looked so good, I almost wanted to blush.

"Sorry to interrupt." Logan said with a small smile as he looked between us. "I just wanted to tell you that I was going to buy things from the store, do you need anything?"

"No, I don't need anything." Hunter answered. "This is Olivia, I don't think you two ever met."

"Nice to meet you, I've heard so much about you." I greeted him, holding my hand out to him.

"Same here." He nodded, shaking my hand.

I felt like a jolt of electricity as soon as his hand touched mine and his eyes widened. He narrowed his eyes on his brother and his voice seemed a bit different as he said.

"You're... Mate."

Mate? We were more than that but maybe he just wanted to be respectful. Hunter seemed surprised to hear his brother say that, he stiffened and I almost wanted to ask him what's wrong. I retrieved my hand and Logan whipped his gaze back on me.

"We've been dating for four years now." I nodded.

He shook his head and he offered me a small smile.

"That's what I heard. Have fun, while I'm gone but not too much." He chuckled before leaving to go downstairs.

He seemed like a nice guy and I noticed that I wanted him to come back. What was going on with me? That seemed ridiculous but I had this need to catch up and explain myself to him. Why?

"I think you should leave." Hunter said, his voice cold.

I turned to him, shocked that he would say that to me.

"Why? Did something happen?" I asked.

"Not yet. I'm sorry but I can't tell you more. Do as I say." He insisted.

I bit back the tears that threatened to fall at his clear rejection and started to leave. What was wrong with him? Why did he do this to me?
