Letter to Earth

During the summer of Earth year 1963, a contingent of beings from the planet we call Mars was sent to study our planet and its inhabitants.

The number of Mars beings was approximately 300, making the journey in seven vehicles.

The Martians, as we later referred to them, were quite adept at morphing into human Earth beings, barely discernible to anyone. Some had trouble with the shape of their ears.

Prior to this time, people could only wonder about possible life on Mars and what the planet and its inhabitants were like. Even today, we are still poking around at their planet to determine its present make-up.

They located their base of operations in our state of New Mexico, a quite remote area, or so they thought.

They divided into groups to study the different aspects of the planet and earthlings.

One group interested in human interaction even staged a dance party, chronicled in the record ‘Martian Hop’.

Another group circled the Earth to observe the different continents, oceans, people, and customs. Varying skin color and religions were most surprising.

The group that went to libraries around the world to study our history were shocked to find out how prevalent wars and humans killing humans was, and still was. Back in the USA part of the world that a hundred years prior, had brothers killing brothers in a civil war over the right to divide the nation and the right to own other human beings, to their way of thinking was unimaginable.

They read about people trying to eliminate another type of people and to conquer other parts of the globe, causing the entire planet to be at war.

They saw firsthand how a person wanting to move from one country to another and being rejected, can use his skills learned in the military, to eliminate the leader of our nation for personal reasons.

They sang along with folk singers who were protesting our country sending young men, dressed in odd suits, halfway around the world to kill smaller sized people, using barbaric guns with pointy things on the end.

They watched as many people of dark color walked together chanting that they wanted to have the same rights as people with lighter skin.

They read that leaders of the country were preparing rules to make rights equal.

The group that was assigned to analyze our form of government was most impressed with how quickly we replaced our fallen leader.

The two-or-so party system also impressed them, at first.

They had studied our constitution and system of laws and found them most remarkable.

They were, however, in disbelief that a building full of chosen people could be so driven by greed and animosity toward the other team.

They admired, that against all odds, our nation still existed and our world showed promise.

The group that stayed in Los Angeles was saddened by the air quality problems, of which their world had to deal with centuries before.

As their mission was nearing completion, and they regrouped, not all returned for the trip home. Some had fallen into the hands of some really bad people, and some were captured, killed and autopsied by overzealous agents. Two of their space vehicles were seized and stashed by overprotective government bodies. The remaining “aliens” squeezed into the five remaining ships for departure.

Some wanted to stay, but knew that was impossible.

Before departing, they composed a letter describing their observations along with recommendations “from ones who know”.

The letter is on the list of banned books, but here is a bootleg copy of the key points:

1. God gave you Earth people a way nicer planet than ours.

2. The oceans, the mountains, the rivers, the farmlands, the air, the water below, the climates, the forests, the sky, the rain, the wind, the snow, all to be envied.

3. Do all you can to save and restore your planet.

4. Our planet, what you call Mars, shares the same God, but has only one type of being, and one type of religion. You have many, embrace them all.

5. Destroying a planet is quite easy. Destroying a country is even easier. Stop it!

6. Your earth and your people have survived some very demanding tests, don’t quit now.

7. Hold your world leaders and the people under them accountable, it matters.

8. Respect all living things.

9. Make peace on Earth and the love of mankind job one.

10. Honest education is key.

P.S. Since our civilization did not follow the advice we are giving you, and we are centuries older, we can only hope we will still be there when you come to visit.
